Hi @LesleyB1
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand how alarming it is to see your HP 9122e laptop frozen on a QR code screen, especially when basic reset steps haven’t worked.
That screen typically appears during a system crash or failed boot sequence, and the QR code links to diagnostic info—but when the system won’t respond, it’s time to go deeper.
Here’s a structured recovery path to help you regain control:
Step-by-Step: Recover from QR Code Freeze on HP 9122e:
1. Perform a Full Power Drain
This clears residual charge and forces a hardware-level reset:
- Disconnect power cord and any USB devices
- Hold down the power button for 30 seconds
- Leave the laptop unplugged for 5 minutes
- Reconnect power and try powering on again
2. Access HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)
If the screen remains stuck:
- Power off the laptop completely
- Press the Esc key repeatedly while powering on
- Then press F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
- Run System Tests and Component Tests (especially display and storage)
HP’s guide for this tool is available at:
HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI
3. Attempt BIOS Recovery
If diagnostics don’t launch:
- Power off the laptop
- Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds
- Release all keys and wait—this may trigger BIOS recovery
More details are available on HP’s official BIOS recovery guide:
Recovering the BIOS
4. Use HP Cloud Recovery (if needed)
If the system remains unresponsive, you may need to reinstall Windows:
- Use another PC to download the HP Cloud Recovery Tool
- Create a recovery USB and boot your laptop from it
I know how stressful this can be, especially when the device is completely unresponsive. I’m here to guide you through it. Let’s get your system back on track.
