HI @boatz12,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Cleaning the scanner area beneath the glass of your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus (N911g) is important to maintain clear and high-quality scans. Here’s how you can clean the bulk scanner area:

Tools You May Need:

  • Lint-free cloth: Use a cloth that won't leave fibers or lint behind.
  • Isopropyl alcohol: It's often used for cleaning electronics because it evaporates quickly and is effective at removing residues.

Steps to Clean the Scanner:

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Before you begin cleaning, make sure the printer is powered off and unplugged from the electrical outlet to avoid any potential electrical hazards.

Open the Scanner Lid:

  • Lift the scanner lid to access the glass area and the bulk scanner underneath.

Clean the Glass and Bulk Scanner:

  • Glass Surface: While you're cleaning the scanner lid, it's a good idea to wipe down the glass surface with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or glass cleaner. Wipe in one direction to avoid streaks.
  • Bulk Scanner Area: For the bulk scanner area underneath the lid, use a dry lint-free cloth to gently wipe away any dust or debris. If there are stubborn stains or residues, lightly dampen the cloth with isopropyl alcohol and gently wipe the area. Avoid using excessive liquid, as it could seep into the scanner mechanisms.

Remove Residue Carefully:

  • If there are sticky residues or debris that are harder to remove, use the cloth lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Ensure the cloth is not dripping wet to prevent any liquid from getting inside the scanner components.

Let it Dry:

  • Allow the scanner lid and bulk scanner area to air dry completely before closing the lid and powering the printer back on.

Close the Scanner Lid:

  • Once the cleaning is complete and everything is dry, gently lower the scanner lid back into place.

Additional Tips:

  • Frequency: Regularly cleaning the scanner area prevents dust and debris from accumulating, ensuring clear and crisp scans.
  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use ammonia-based cleaners or abrasive materials, as they can damage the scanner components.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
