Hi @dale165
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
That’s definitely annoying—especially when your printer keeps slipping offline or shutting down unexpectedly. Let’s try to get it back on track with a few deeper-level steps that go beyond the usual quick fixes
Power Settings Check:
- Access the printer control panel menus to check if there is a setting related to power-saving modes or automatic shutoff.
- Make sure the printer is set to stay awake or has a longer sleep time configured.
Update Printer Firmware:
- Ensure your printer has the latest firmware update installed. You can check for updates on HP's support page.
- Firmware updates can resolve software bugs that might be causing the printer to go offline.
Network Connectivity:
- If your printer is connected wirelessly, check that it has a stable internet connection.
- Make sure it's on the same network as your computer and there are no obstructions causing intermittent connectivity issues.
Printer Connection Type:
- Consider switching from a wireless connection to a wired Ethernet connection if possible, to ensure stable connectivity.
- This can help in resolving frequent disconnection.
Check for Interference:
- Remove any devices or objects near the printer that might interfere with the signal, especially when using a wireless connection.
- Ensure the router is within range and not subject to electronic interference.
Reboot Router and Printer:
- Powercycle your router by turning it off and then on again.
- Restart your printer to refresh the network connections.
Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Uninstall the current printer drivers and download the latest version from HP's support website.
- Reinstall the drivers to ensure there are no software conflicts.
Use HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool
- In the HP Smart app, click Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
- Let it run a scan—it will automatically fix common connection issues.
You can also access this tool on HP’s support page if needed.
