I bought a brand new HP Color Laser Jet Pro MFP 3303fdw and when trying to set it up wireless, it ask me for administrator name and password.

There is nothing in the user manual with this info and I did not install a username and password on this computer.

Now today, It has all of a sudden stopped talking to the computer with the cord to desktop. I havent had this pritner for more than 1 month yet.

I went to HP downloaded the drivers, updated it and also used the printer properties option to install. Nothing is working and now the printer shows as "off line"

Hi @CaribbeanHolm,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're encountering two distinct issues with your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3303fdw:

Administrator Username and Password Request During Wireless Setup:

  • This prompt is related to the printer's embedded web server (EWS) security settings or the device's administrative access.
  • By default, some HP printers come with preset credentials or require you to set up a username and password during initial configuration.
  • If no credentials were set, try these default options:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: Leave it blank or try admin.
  • If this doesn't work, the password might have been set during setup or a random password generated. Check for a sticker on the printer or inside the manual that lists a default or random password. It might also appear on the printer's screen under "Network Summary" or "Information."
  1.  Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS): Use the HP printer Embedded Web Server (EWS)
    • Connect the printer to your network via Ethernet or USB.
    • Find the printer's IP address (on the printer's touchscreen or by printing a network configuration page).
    • Enter the IP address in your web browser's address bar to open the EWS.
  2. Reset credentials if necessary:
    • In the EWS, navigate to Settings > Security and look for "Reset Password" options.
  3. Perform a factory reset if you can't log in:
    • On the printer's touchscreen, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Settings.
    • Note: This will erase all custom configurations, including network settings.

Printer Offline with USB and Network Issues: HP printer is offline or unavailable

  • This could be due to driver mismatches, network disruptions, or a misconfigured connection.
  1. Check Printer Status:
    • Ensure the printer is powered on and not in sleep mode.
    • Reconnect the USB cable securely.
    • If using Wi-Fi, ensure the printer is connected to the correct network (print a network configuration page to confirm).
  2. Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer
    • Visit HP's support website and download the latest firmware for your printer.
    • Install the firmware via USB or Wi-Fi.
  3. Reinstall Drivers:
    • Disconnect the printer from your computer (both USB and Wi-Fi).
    • Uninstall the existing printer driver:
      • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners on your computer.
      • Remove the printer and delete related drivers using Print Management (type printmanagement.msc in the Run box).
    • Download the latest full-feature driver from HP's support page for the 3303fdw.
    • Reconnect the printer and run the installer to reconfigure.
  4. Switch to Static IP (for Network Connection):
    • In the EWS or directly on the printer, assign a static IP address to ensure stable communication.
    • Update your computer's printer settings to use the static IP.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
