I would guess you are using the HP Smart application to print documents.
If that is the case, the simple answer to your question is (at this writing) that HP Smart does not support printing Word documents. You must Export the document to PDF to print it with HP Smart.
What else?
This printer might support a full driver set - if it does so, the following might uncover the secret.
If you have not done so, download-save-install HP Easy Start
HP Easy Start Printer Setup Software
About 2/3 of the way through the setup, you will be (might be?) given the opportunity to select the software.
If available, select the "Full" driver set (as opposed to the basic driver).
After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in.
