HP DeskJet 2734e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I have a new deskjet 2734e that simply won't connect to the network.  I spend hours with chat support when I first got it.  It finally seemed to be working, and the next day I was getting printer offline messages. Since then it has worked once where it connected and printed..   I shut down and uninstalled everything, then reinstalled and followed all the directions/suggestions etc. for resetting the router etc.  In the past 2 hours of trying to get this working, the printer has shown as being "online" once.  I even moved everything within 10 feet of the router.  Nothing.

There is no cable connection with this model - there is a piece of tape over the port which has an 'X" over a picture of a USB.

I understand that this is not a high-end model but I have a cheap printer at our place in FL and I can walk in there after 2 months and print using wifi from my phone or any computer with no problem.

Any suggestions?  Is it possible it just has a faulty part?

Hi @limami,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It can be frustrating when a printer consistently has trouble connecting to the network. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue with your HP DeskJet 2734e.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is within the range of your Wi-Fi network.
  • Verify that your Wi-Fi network is functioning properly.

Restart Router:

  • Power cycle your router by unplugging it, waiting for about 30 seconds, and then plugging it back in. This can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.

Printer Reset:

  • Make sure the printer is turned on.
  • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons simultaneously until the Power light starts to blink.

Reinstall Printer Software:

  • Uninstall the printer software from your computer.
  • Reinstall the latest software and drivers from the official HP website.

Update Firmware:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP support website. If available, update the firmware.

Printer Placement:

  • Ensure that there are no physical obstructions between the printer and the router.
  • Avoid placing the printer near electronic devices that may interfere with the Wi-Fi signal.

Wi-Fi Channels:

  • Check if there are multiple Wi-Fi networks in your area using the same channel. If so, change your router's Wi-Fi channel.

Disable VPN or Firewall:

  • Temporarily disable any VPN or firewall software on your computer to check if they are causing the connectivity issue.

Printer IP Address:

  • Assign a static IP address to your printer instead of using DHCP. Refer to the printer manual for instructions on how to set a static IP.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Alden, thank you for your reply.  I spent a couple of hours with someone from HP Tech support when I initially could not get the printer working, including him getting on my computer and going through everything you mentioned above.  Then the conversation dropped.  I thought it was taken care of and like I said, I printed a couple of times, and then it was not working again.

Fast forward to this week and I have already spent another 4+ hours trying to go through most of the steps you recommended above.  No luck.  Then, I read in a review of the product that someone said that their HP wifi printer would not work despite taking all the steps, and they finally attributed it to the internet provider, Spectrum, which we also have.  I am inclined to think there may be something to that, because my husband's HP only works on the network sporadically.  He ended up connecting his by cable.  The reason I bought a printer for myself was that I could not reliably print to his.  As in, maybe 1 out of 20 attempts.  Other devices connect reliably to our Spectrum wifi.  What are your thoughts?

Between trying to get my husband's printer set up initially, then mine, I conservatively have 12 hours into trying to make this work and TBH the printer isn't worth the hassle.   At this point,  I just want my money back because I have no faith that going through all the steps again will resolve the issue.  I am curious to your thoughts on the compatibility with Spectrum's equipment, however.
