Hi @TANJA3,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer was previously connected to Wi-Fi but, after not being used for about a year, it no longer connects and you’re unable to print. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and reconnect it to Wi-Fi.

Power cycle the printer and router
Turn off the printer and unplug it for 30 seconds.
Restart your Wi-Fi router, then turn the printer back on once the network is stable.

Reset the printer’s Wi-Fi settings
On the printer, press and hold the Wireless button (or Wireless + Cancel, depending on model) for about 5 seconds.
This clears old network details so the printer can be set up again.

Check Wi-Fi indicator on the printer
Look for a blue light or wireless icon on the printer.
A blinking light usually means the printer is in setup mode and ready to connect.

Install or open HP Smart
On your computer or phone, install and open the HP Smart app.
Make sure the device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network you want the printer to use.

Add the printer again in HP Smart
In HP Smart, choose Add printer or Set up a new printer.
Follow the on-screen steps to select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.

Check Wi-Fi network compatibility
Ensure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4 GHz or a combined 2.4/5 GHz network.
Many HP printers cannot connect to 5 GHz-only networks.

Disable VPNs or firewalls temporarily
Turn off any VPN or third-party firewall on your device during setup.
These can block the printer from being detected on the network.

Confirm the printer shows “Ready” or “Online”
Once setup is complete, check the printer status in HP Smart or Devices and Printers.
The printer should appear online before attempting to print.

I hope this helps.
