Hi @dennisgf8,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Since your HP printer was working fine before the T-Mobile Wi-Fi upgrade, and now you're getting a hardware address error (MAC: ac:b6:54:5e:15:1d) during setup, it’s likely a network compatibility or isolation issue, especially with the new 2.4 GHz network.

Let’s fix it step-by-step:
1. Ensure the 2.4 GHz Network Is Active and Separate

  • HP printers only support 2.4 GHz, not 5 GHz.
  • Make sure your router is broadcasting a distinct 2.4 GHz SSID (e.g., HomeWiFi_2.4).
  • Avoid using special characters in the network name or password.

2. Disable AP Isolation or Client Isolation

  • Log in to your T-Mobile router settings.
  • Look for “AP Isolation”“Client Isolation”, or “Guest Mode”.
  • Disable these settings; they prevent devices from communicating with each other.

3. Reset Printer Network Settings

  • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons together for 5 seconds.
  • This resets the printer’s network settings and puts it into setup mode (Wi-Fi light should blink).

4. Use HP Smart App to Reconnect

  1. Download or open the HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site.
  2. Click “Set up a new printer”.
  3. Select your 2.4 GHz network and enter the password.
  4. If prompted, enter the PIN (usually found on a label inside the printer or on the display).

5. Assign a Static IP (Optional)

If the printer connects but disappears later:

  • Log in to your router and assign a static IP to the printer’s MAC address (ac:b6:54:5e:15:1d).
  • This ensures the printer always gets the same IP and stays discoverable.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
