We have consistent issue where our Android tablets will show a wireless printer as unavailable at first attempt to print, but when you back out and try again it then shows as available and works. This is an issue for end users as most are not savvy enough to try the workaround and instead jump straight to calling service desk. Any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Hi @joshcwork,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing an issue with wireless printers and Android devices. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Network Stability:

  • Ensure that both the Android tablets and the wireless printer are connected to a stable Wi-Fi network.
  • Check for any network issues or interference that might cause temporary disruptions.

Printer Firmware/Driver Updates:

  • Check for firmware updates for your wireless printer. updates to improve compatibility and address issues.
  • Make sure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your Android tablets.

Static IP Address:

  • Assign a static IP address to your wireless printer to avoid any potential conflicts with dynamic IP assignment. Consult your printer's manual or manufacturer's support for guidance on setting a static IP.

Printer Power and Connectivity:

  • Ensure that the wireless printer is powered on and properly connected to the Wi-Fi network.
  • Verify that there are no physical obstructions or interference between the printer and the Wi-Fi router.

Printer Placement:

  • Check if the wireless printer is placed within a reasonable distance from the Wi-Fi router. Weak signals or interference can lead to connectivity issues.

Printer Sleep Settings:

  • Some printers have power-saving features that may put the printer into sleep mode. Adjust the sleep settings on the printer to ensure it remains active during printing sessions.

Android Printing Services:

  • Make sure that the Android devices have the latest updates for their operating system.
  • Clear the cache and data for the printing service on Android devices. Go to Settings > Apps > [Printing Service] > Storage > Clear Cache/Clear Data.

Printer Discovery Issues:

  • Check if there are any issues with the printer discovery process. Restart the Wi-Fi router, or try assigning a static IP address to the printer to see if it helps.

Printer and Android Compatibility:

  • Verify that the wireless printer is compatible with the Android tablets. Check the HP website

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-
