Common problems for Connectivity Issues

I received a response from HP about my printer issue, basically I was told my printer is too old to troubleshoot. The printer is an HP 7500A all in one printer. It is old yes but was boxed from 2016 until 2022 and when I say boxed I mean original packaging, just like when bringing home from store. I unboxed the printer this past year, plugged it in, followed the prompts and it printed fine. We live in a fairly rural area, so we switched from a microwave type internet connection to full wired internet. Once this was completed I simply reconnected the printer to the wireless connection and the printer functioned normally. Our router has two connections, a 2.4 connection and a 5G connection. The printer will not connect to the 5G connection but connects to the 2.4 connection and the printer worked fine. After trying to print to the printer by attempting a number of fixes I was instructed to connect the printer right to the router and I WAS able to print over the network. I was told, unless I completely misunderstood, that once I did that the printer would find the 192.168 address is used to have and the printer should work wirelessly. The printer did not do this it reverted back to the 169 address. I've tried all the other things to try, unplugging the router for a full minute, unplugging the printer, redoing the wireless connection to the printer, etc. Nothing has worked and HP has now told me to buy a new one. I've been following the different chats about this issue and it seems like it's something that is fairly common. I have cat 5 cable throughout the house and could potentially connect the cat 5 to the router and then connecting the printer to it somehow, but the wireless feature is a convenient way to be able for all printers to be able to print. So...any suggestions on a new printer, I don't need a FAX machine.

Hi @RJR514,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Once you get the printer attached, try to set a static IP in this way:

1. Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
2. Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
3. Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
4. On this screen, you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you know what that is, set an IP outside that range but no higher than 254 (the last number in the address). If you do not know this, enter the current IP address.
5. Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different if so, use that)
6. Leave the gateway and DNS blank. Click 'Apply'

Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.

After this, you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I had the same issue with a 477 pagewide, even after setting a reservation on the DHCP server it was still dropping the assigned IP and reverting back to the 169. Very frustrating and especially for the user . The only solution I had was login to your printer with the 169 address and go to networking and assign it a static IP. This should solve your issue, you can always go into your router as well and under dhcp assign it a reservation so you do not get an IP conflict in the future. Hope this helps.
