Officejet Pro 6830

I plug my memory stick into the USB port on front of the printer.  Printer says it'll only print a photo, and a PDF doesn't count.   If I try to print a JPG that's converted from a PDF, it'll only print it as 4x6" size.   If I double the # pixels in the JPG, it makes no difference.

And is there any other way to achieve a resizing, using the 6830?  I didn't see, but could have overlooked.

Hi @citizenfiveanda,

I may be able to help answer your questions about the USB drive on your Officejet Pro 6830.

Everything I found is indicating that it only support printing photos.

You can take a look at Printing Photos from a USB Flash Drive for more information.

As well as, in the Officejet Pro 6830 User Guide - it has this information on how to print photos from a USB flash drive;

You can connect a USB flash drive (such as a keychain drive) to the USB port on the front of the printer.

For more information about using memory devices, see Insert a USB flash drive.

CAUTION: Do not remove the flash drive from the printer USB port while it is being accessed by the printer. This can damage the files on the USB flash drive. You can safely remove a USB flash drive only when the USB port light is not blinking.

1. Insert a USB flash drive into the front USB port.

2. From the control panel display, touch Print Photos.

3. From the control panel display, touch View and Print to display photos.

4. On the printer display, select a photo that you want to print and touch Continue.

5. Scroll up or down to specify the number of photos to print.

6. Touch (Edit) to select options to edit the selected photos. You can rotate, crop a photo, or turn Photo Fix or Red Eye Removal on and off.

7. Touch Done and touch Continue to preview the selected photo. If you wish to adjust layout or paper type, touch (Settings), and then touch your selection. You can also save any new settings as defaults.

8. Touch Print to begin printing.

Just for added knowledge, I also found in the Printer Specifications for the HP Officejet 6830, that it does list some supported USB flash drives. HP has fully tested the following USB flash drives with the printer;

  • HP Hi-Speed USB Flash Drive v100w (8 GB)
  • SanDisk Cruzer Micro Skin (4 GB)
  • Imation Swivel (1 GB)
  • Kingston DataTraveler 100 (4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB)
  • Lexar JumpDrive Traveler (1 GB)

NOTE: You might be able to use other USB flash drives with your printer. However, HP cannot guarantee that they work correctly with the printer because they have not been fully tested.

Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks,

How do I resize the"photo" (of the pdf) so the printer will print it larger than 4x6, from the USB memiry stick?
(And if I can't, what is the rationale for shutting off this workaround?)

Thanks for replying @citizenfiveanda,

I'm not sure what work around you are referring to.

When you review the document I linked above; Printing Photos from a USB Flash Drive; it appears that this printer only supports printing photos and only to the standard photo size of 4x6. Even in the user guide, it only shows 4x6.

If you need it to be larger then the 4x6 size, I would try opening the file on your computer. From there you can adjust the size in a program on your computer and print it from there.

Hopefully this helps.

Thanks again,

But how do you print a document.  That's the original question.

When you plug a flash drive in the front of the printer, you cannot print anything but a photo.

You can't.  It's an incredibly stupid/obnoxious limitation that HP has put in place, but I appreciate the high quality support from
