I just purchased an OfficeJet Pro 6978. Supposedly it has "automatic two-sided printing". The User's Guide says that for this I must "On the Printing Shortcut tab, select a shortcut which supports the Print On Both Sides setting.". The trouble is that none of the predefined ones do, and I don't know how to create one which does.
This admittedly isn't the biggest reason I bought this printer, but the capability was something I was looking forward to. Can someone please clue me in on why it doesn't seem to be available?
The box under "Print on Both Sides:" says "None", and won't let me change it.

Hi,
Can you go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers > Select your printer (Officejet Pro 6970) > Printer Properties > Device Settings
Under Installable Options, make sure the the "Automatic Duplexing Unit is selected as "Installed"
Thanks.

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP Forums.
Can you download and install the FULL feature printer software from HP for your operating system:
The following resource will help you :
http://123.hp.com/us/en/
Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.
Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.
The printing shortcuts would be available once the FULL feature software is installed.
Some useful resources for you:
Download and install software for Officejet Pro 6970 series
HP Officejet Pro 6970 series : Scan a 10 pages 2 sided document using the ADF
Hope that helps.

I had already downloaded & installed that. This is the software whose shortcuts don't allow the "Print on Both Sides:" box to have anything put in it.
The link about scanning 2-sided documents is not relevant; I can do that OK. The shortcuts I'm referring to are print shortcuts, not scan shortcuts. I thought I'd been clear that I was talking about printing, not scanning.

Bingo. Thank you very much! It was "not installed", & changing it to "installed" gives me things with duplexing available.
Haven't tested printing yet (I printed both sides by hand on what I needed to print), but I'm assuming that this will now work.
Odd that nothing in the documentation (user's guide) said anything about this, as far as I can see.
Again, thanks. If for some reason it doesn't actually print, I'll be back.
