I managed to resolve a paper jam when I was scanning numerous pages via the automatic document feeder.  One was particularly tough, and I looked up the solution on this site. In answering someone's question this video was posted by one of the HP techs:    solving paper jam.  At about 5:43 in that video, a similar ADF appears with the ADF mechanism down and the ADF cover open. Right in the center of that image is a tab protruding from the ADF mechanism, ivory in color. I remember using that tab to open the mechanism and remove the paper jab. When I did so, though, the tab pressed too far down. When I retrieved it with tweezers, it was a tiny bit of plastic that connecte,d to another piece via a tiny -perhaps 2mm x 4mm- bridge.

I can press the remaining tab in the ADF mechanism when it is plugged in and receive the "ding" noice that paper is loaded. However, with everything else in place the ding doesn't happen when I actually load paper. The tab that broke off no longer protrudes slightly from the center of the mechanism - instead things are flush, with a little bounce to the mechanism. I tried attaching a photo but it didn't work. The tab is white/cream, triangular in shape, with one tiny corner broken at about a 2 x 4 mm that joined it to the rest of the white plastic switch. How do I reattach it (Superglue?) and to what? The dimensions are about 1.5 x 1.2 x 1.0 cn

Another try at a photo of the broken part: IMG_0424.JPG

Somehow the broken triangular tab placed to the upper right of the piece attaches to the piece pictured below it. If I could replace that entire piece, I could probably fix the ADF.
