HP Laserjet Pro 8600

The ADF is no longer pulling paper to scan. You can hear (what sounds like) wheels turning to pull in the paper to scan it, but the paper never moves. It's not pulling the paper. Please help!

Hi @HBarbee,

Good Day.  A warm welcome to the HP community. I reviewed the post regarding the ADF not picking paper. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Splendid description and great observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

For providing you with an accurate response I would require more information regarding this.

  • Did you bypass power strips and connect the printer directly to the wall outlet?
  • Did you clean the ADF rollers?
  • Does it pick paper correctly from the flatbed?

Please perform a hard reset first

Reset the printer, and then try to print again.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

       NOTE:

HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

  9. Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

  10. Then perform all the required steps from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-pro-8600-e-all-in-one-printer-series-n911/4322914/... for ADF paper pick issues to check if the issue gets resolved. If there are no hardware issues with the printer’s ADF then it should get resolved.

If it continues, then the printer’s ADF paper pick sensors are faulty and the printer needs to be replaced by contacting HP phone support. A good workaround would be to use the flatbed until the time you find the resources to get the printer replaced.
