Thank you for the response.

Currently, the HP support technician has successfully connected my printer manually to my HP desktop.

It is now working.

i also got my printer box and it showed damage as shipped, but the vendor allowed me to return the printer and gave me an exchange.  fortunately, the HP OfficeJet 6954 replacement is not giving me problems on installation!

I have the exact same issue on a freshly restored Surface 4 Pro. I have tried all the troubleshooting steps in this thread. No success. How was the other printer issue fixed by the technician?

My OfficeJet 8620 wireless printer is correctly detected by the Printer installer wizard in Windows 10, loads the drivers, then immedately says 'Driver Unavailable' when you click on it in the Control Panel - Printers window.

I then downloaded the full printer software and it sits forever on 'Installing Network Printer'.

I can browse to the IP address of the printer and interrogate it via my web browser with no issues, so it is not a connectivity problem.

Hi,

Your problem seems to be exactly the same as the one that I encountered.  Unfortunately, when the HP tech solved my problem, she did a remote computer takeover and worked on it for almost an hour.  All I did was watch the cursor move around my screen.

Unfortunately, I can't relate specifics, but she did delete all HP installed software, ran through some settings on Task Master Services and eventually installed the driver(s) manually.  Wish that there was a record of the steps, but there isn't.

From an offhand remark by the tech, I inferred that they are having problems with this installation!

If you are within the 1 year warranty period, I would suggest that you contact HP Phone Support, otherwise, keep at it!

BTW, now that the printer is working, my scan function doesn't since the scanner is not recognized by my desktop and laptop.  This is now another posting on the forum!

Good luck.
