Officejet 5740

Keep getting this alignment unsuccessful.

I've already tried:

Unplugging for 60 secs

Plugging back in

Removing the cartridges

Powering off

Powering back on

Re-inserting cartridges

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for visiting the HP Forum @Vyork,

I saw your post about the alignment unsuccessful on Officejet 5740 printer and wanted to reply with my own suggestions.

  1. Please make sure that you're using plain white unused A4/ Letter paper to align the printer.
  2. Print a self-test and make sure print quality is good. Low ink can cause alignment failure.
  3. If print quality is bad and ink is not low, try a printhead/cartridge Toolbox cleaning. (Step-up Icon(Wrench Symbol)>>Printer preferences >Tools >>Clean Printhead (Complete three level cleaning ))
  4. Make a copy and check if the scanner is OK.

I hope this info helps, let me know what happens after you try those steps.

@Vyork

Thank you for the update.

You can try performing a Semi-full reset on the printer. I am sending a private message with instructions.

Unfortunatley the reset didn't correct however I'm not suspecting a possible bad color cartridge.

When I did a print quality diag, you're supposed to get three vertical lines (different shading) of black, cyan, magenta, & Yellow...cyan doesn't give me three complete veritcal lines, it's broken up into what looks like blocks, a block of white, block of cyan, block of white, block of white etc etc

Hello @Vyork,

Appreciate your efforts.

Going through your post, it looks like one of the color or the black itself is not printing correctly. That is the reason for the failed alignment as well. You are not supported to get any blocks of white while printing the test page. It should ideally give your blocks of all the colors and the black.

Try making a color copy and check whether there is any color which is missing or not coming out properly. That should isolate the issue further. You can refer to http://hp.care/2d7EZ6c for additional steps.

Let me know how that goes!

Good luck 🙂
