On my HP OJ 4500 G510g-m, when scaning using the HP solutions center - it always appends a 4 digit number to the end of the base filename that I can change.

What I don't seem to be able to do is to get it to STOP appending the 4 digit number. I never want it to do that. I could see where this could be useful, but not for my situation.  Seems like there should be a check box to enable/disable this feature.

Anyone out there know of a way to get this done.... registry hack or whatever? It's a pain to have to edit every filename that I scan to so that I can eliminate the 4 digit number.

Oh yeah... using Win 8 with the latest drivers and software available.

Well it's an answer that's not a solution.

However, as there is no solution, I have to call it solved as you at least provided an answer with sufficient clarity so that I can stop looking for a way to do what I want.

FWIW - In my 22+ years of IT work, almost every scanning software program does this and dang few of 'em have an option to turn it off - so for all those years, I've been editing the filenames to remove the 0001 that somebody thinks everybody wants. I've never talked to any one that does want this so .... change who ever is being used for market research.

Append a number to the end if there is already a file by the name you specify... now that make sense.

It's stupid to assume which is what HP (and others) have done by hard coding that into the scan software. Please pass that up the line.

I am grateful for the answer, however. It's just not a solution.

Hi Jimbo54, sorry to hear that you are having issues with the scan's leaving the scan number post.  This is actually part of the scanning software and can not be disabled. Sorry for the inconvenience on this issue.

Thank you.
