Ho envy 5540
When printing, the automatic output tray extender does not extend

Hey @Sheshetta,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand the output tray on your Envy 5540 e-All-in-One Printer does not extend. I can help you with that.

What is most likely happening is the tray's lock is set. To change this, remove the paper covering/tray from the printer and turn it over. You should see a grey lever with a lock and unlock symbol beside it. Make sure the lever is pushed towards the unlock symbol.

Please let me know if this allows the tray to extend. If it does, please click on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.

I checked. It is not locked. Thanks for the tip, though. If you have another idea, please let me know.

If it is not extending, that suggests mechanical failure. I suggest contacting HP Support directly by clicking on this link and filling out the form at the bottom to see what troubleshooting steps or options they have available depending on your warranty.

Please let me know if you are able to reach some resolution with support.
