Have just bough a 5740 - I cannot get it to stop crashing with error code B8BAA9F8 (which I've only been able to capture by videoing the screen!) - is this a known problem with a fix - or do I have a faulty printer?

Hello, @AdamBC99 – Hope you are well 🙂
Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips!
I understand that your new printer is crashing with an error code. Try performing a power drain to fix this issue:
- Remove the cartridges from the printer.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Remove USB cable, if present.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
- Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
- Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
If the issue persists, the please contact HP phone support to get the printer replaced. You can visit http://www.support.hp.com/contact-hp and fill in your product details to get the tech support number.
I hope that answers your concern adequately. Let me know!
Good luck 🙂

Hello, @AdamBC99
It looks like a firmware issue on the printer. You can try updating the printer firmware. Go to http://hp.care/2o1vur3 to download and update the firmware. You might need a Windows PC to run the firmware.
If that fails, then please contact the HP phone support for a printer service.
You can visit http://www.support.hp.com/contact-hp and fill in your product details to get the tech support number.
(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help!
Cheers 🙂

Hello, @AdamBC99
You certainly need the printer to stay on for more than that to update the firmware. I believe there is nothing much that we can attempt at this point but to contact the hp support.
Visit us again if you have any concerns! Thank you!
Have a great day!

Don't ask me how (perserverance!), but I managed to keep the printer up long enough to update the software etc and it now seems to be stable - but ...
I can now see the printer via Safari by IP address - but when I try to switch to an HTTPS mode eg AirPrint/Status (to check AirPrint is on - see below), it times out!
Also, when I try to print from my iMac (wired into router (wireless off)/printer connected via WiFi to router), if I select the printer the print function sees ("HP Officejet 5740 series [DE1A60]"), I get "An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer." - but if I add the printer manually (by IP address - naming it "HP 5740") I can select that printer and it prints fine ...
And when I try to use AirPrint from an iOS device, again it sees the "HP Officejet series [DE1A60]" printer, but eventually times out saying the printer is offline - and I don't think I can add a printer manually on an iOS device? ...
Strange!!!
Any thoughts?
Many thanks ...
