Just purchased CM1415fnw MFP.  The manual says you can change the frequency of color calibration in Print Quality >> Color Calibration >> Calibration Timing.  But the printer does NOT have that option except the other two options: Calibrate Now and Power On Calibration.  Updated the firmware with the latest dated June 29th, 2012.

Is not having the latest (HP removed that option lately since many people were complaining about repeated calbiration?) or is there another firmware that has that option?

Thanks in advance.

Hi scatjay,

After digging in a little deeper I have found that this option is not in the Contol Panel of the printer, but you can find this option in the EWS - Embedded Web Server of the printer. Glad to hear you are not having any issues with this printer. Have a wonderful day.

Hi scatjay,

This appears to be a typo in the Users manual. The Calibration Timing is not an option and has not been an option that I am aware of for this printer. The only options are what you mentioned in your post for Calibrate Now and Power On Calibration. Thank you for bring this to my attention. Are you having problems with the calibration on this printer?

No problem in calibrating (myself ?)  When I turned it on the first time, I think it calibrated it (?) and no error, so I guess it calibrated fine.

Good to know the current firmware does not have that option.

Thanks.

I tried EWS and found the timing there.  Great!

One last question: what do you really mean by xx-minute Power-On Calibration?  Does it mean it will calibrate AFTER xx minutes?  Will it CONTINUE to calibrate for the first xx minutes?  Would you clarify it?  You set it at 60 mins in the screenshot whereas the default is 15 mins.  You must have a reason to set it to the longest one.

Also, I set the timing to 168 hours like you did since my kids don't use the printer that often.  Am I thinking correctly about the timing setting?

Thanks in advance.

Hi scatjay,

I would suggest that you set the calibration times to make sure the printer still runs the maintenance to keep the printer calibrated for the best print quality.

Power On Calibration - Specify whether the product should calibrate when you turn it on.

Calibration Timing - Specify how frequently the product should calibrate.

Hello.  Your answers are what the manual says, and still it doesn't answer the question, especially the first one.

See the description of "Power On Calibration."  It says "whether .... " meaning it is a yes/no question.  If someone says "You should specify whether you like this food (or not)."  Then, the answer is "Yes I like it or No, I don't."  Not "I like 2 dishes of this food or 3."

Say Power On Calibration is 15 mins.  Then how should I read it?  The question is "whether calibrate or not when turned on."  Isn't it supposed to be "Specify WHEN the product should calibrate when you turn it on"?  Then it makes sense.  15 mins setting means AFTER 15 minutes from turn-on, it will calibrate.

Having that said, your setting was 60 mins.  Does that mean you want to wait for an hour to calibrate after turning on the unit?

Would you clarify this?  I am trying to follow your settings, but need to understand what they mean first.

Thanks!

Hi scatjay,

Calibration of the printer keeps the print quality and page alignment adjusted.

Power On Calibration - If you set the Power on calibration for 15 minutes then the printer will run a calibration after the printer has been powered on for 15 minutes. You will need to determine when you would like to have the printer run this calibration process.

Calibration Timing – This time is set for how often you want the printer to check the calibration of the printer. If you set it for a high number you may find that the calibration may not be consistent from print to print. It is best for the printer to check calibrate for best print quality and alignment on the paper.
