Officejet 4635
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I cannot print from 32 bit applicatons. I am able to print from Notepad and Adobe reader. But printer does nothing when I try to print from 32 bit Microsoft word. Same issues while printing from Internet Explorer and Firefox. Print Tray icon is displayed and says 0 documents pending. Print test page from printer properties gives me error saying "Test page failed to print. Would you like to view the print troubleshooter for assistance?"

Printer is Officejet 4635.

OS: Microsoft Windows 10 64 bit. (Had same issues with windows 8.1 64 bit)

I have the latest driver from HP website (OJ4630_198)

So how do I fix this issue?

Welcome @GHS1,

I saw your post regarding the problems you are having with printing from your Windows 10 computer to your Officejet 4635, and I may have found some things you could try to get this working.

HP provides a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. The information I have found is that it should work on Windows 10. I recommend trying the HP Print and Scan Doctor first, and if it doesn't fix it automatically let me know what errors or messages you receive.

Here are some Windows 10 resources for you as well;

If the Print and Scan Doctor doesn't resolve the issue, can you tell how your printer is connected (USB or Wireless) and what port the printer is using?

Here is how to check the port:

1. Locate and open Devices and Printers.
2. Right click on your printer icon and choose Printer Properties.

3. Click on the Ports tab along the top of the page.

If it's just Word that is causing the problem I found this post from another website that had this information;

  • Press Start and typed appwiz.cpl
  • Select the "Click to run" Microsoft office app.
  •  I cant remember if I clicked Change or Uninstall but i brought up a repair utility. I ran that repair utility and it fixed my registry problems. IT did Kick back an error, but closed out of the error notification pop up and tested Word printing and it worked this time.

Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks,

I have no issues printing to the Printer. I am able to test print from HP Print and Scan Doctor. Probably 64 bit application.

I have problem printing from 32 bit applications. I have tried Word, Excel, Google Chrome and Firefox. I am not able to print from any of above mentioned applications. I am able to print from Adobe reader, Notepad and Windows Photo Viewer.

I have same result with both USB and wireless printing.

Hi @GHS1, thanks for replying.

I would try the information copied from this post;

1. Click Start, type Services.msc in the Start Search box and press Enter.

2. Double-click the Printer Spooler in the Services list.

3. Click Stop and click OK.

4. Click Start, type %WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers in the Start Search box and press Enter, delete all files in this folder.

5. Click Start, type Services.msc in the Start Search box and press Enter.

6. Double-click Printer Spooler in the Services list.

7. Click on Start. In the Startup Type list, make sure that Automatic is selected and click OK.

If the issue persists, I would try Using the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files.

Let me know what happens.

Thanks,

I know the post is quite old.

but It looks like I have the same issue, but with a Color LaserJet Pro 477fdn

I am using Win 10, at first I was thinking the problem was because of the win10 upgrade

because after reinstalling the printer was working.

Few weeks later it stopped working again.

Was there any solution  to this ?

scan for corrupted files did not solve the problem

it restored some files; but did not fix the printing issue.

as a workaround, I installed the "HP universal printer driver"

now printer works as expected
