I just purchased a new HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus All in one printer. I setup the printer on my home wireless network and it prints great. I am now trying to setup ePrint and when I go through the option to setup the Web Services /ePrint function on the Printer or via the web application for the printer I get the following error:

"Cannot connect to the server.
Check the Internet connection and try again. Or contact your system administrator or the person who set up the printer. If your network requires a proxy server address to connect to Internet, click Enter Proxy or check your browser settings."

My primary PC is running Windows 7 Home Premium with Svc Pac 1, 64 bit

My home network is set for DHCP and I do not have a Proxy Server setup but the Web Services setup page is asking for a Proxy Server an Port.

I have already established a ePrint ID but cannot complete the process until I can get the Printer Web Services setup process to complete.

Any suggestions?

ScottChapman, Can you share what is your current network configuration
How many devices?
Are you having issues with any others, How the printer is connected to the network wireless or ethernet, is in the same broadcast domain (the router/gateway address) and please may you share your operating system as well.

If you re using Win XP or later you can run this utility
HP Print and Scan Doctor go to this link;

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&jumpid=ex_r4155/hho/ipg/ccdoc/p...
and upgrade the post with any errors that the tool may have found.

I will do my best to help you;

Hope this helps!

HI Adrianf;

Hope you are doing well,welcome to the community,

I wil take several steps to make sure they are not causing the issue,

 Try this tool Click here

I will also set an static ipaddress for my printer and change the DNS servers provided by your ISP to Google DNS servers

How to set an static IP address

Follow these steps to assign an unchanging static IP address to the product through the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
  1. Open a new Web browser window.
  2. Type the IP address located on the Network Configuration Page in the address bar of the Web browser, using http:// to begin the address e.g. http://192.168.0.1  Then press Enter .  The EWS home page for the product opens.
  3. In the EWS screen, click the Network tab.
  4. Click Wired (802.3) , and then click the IPv4 Configuration or the IPv6 Configuration tab.
  5. Click Manual IP . The Manual IP Address box opens.
  6. In the Manual IP Address box, type an IP address with the same values in the first three sets of digits (subnet values) as the product's IP address (listed on the Network Configuration Page), and a higher value (between 1 and 254) in the fourth set of digits. This creates a static IP address on the same subnet, but outside the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) range.
    For example, if the product's original IP address is 192.168.0.1 , assign the static IP address to 192.168.0.200 .

    NOTE:
    Do not type the static IP address use as the example. Enter a static IP address based on the IP address for your product. This can be found on network configuration page.
  7. Enter the Subnet Mask and the Default Gateway settings as they appear on the Network Configuration Page.
  8. Click OK to save the new settings, and then click Exit or close the browser to exit the EWS.

While you are here in the IPV4  you can set the DNS servers of google instead of the DNS servers provided by your ISP  just change the option of automaticly select DNS server and use this;

DNS servers of google are 8.8.8.8 and alternative DNS 8.8.4.4

Make sure that the operating system is updated, that the routers firware is the lastest.

Hope it helps and best of luck;

RobertoR

I have the same error even after setting up a static IP for both the wired and wireless. I used xxx.xxx.xxx.251 for the wired and xxx.xxx.xxx.252 for the wireless. I even tried the google servers you mentioned and I still get the same error message that the printer cannot find the server.

What now?

I have two hp8600 pro plus printers at two different locations. The first one works fine and it is the second one that I am having problems with. The travel computer is running XP Pro wtih service pack 3.

The router at this location where the problem with the printer is located is an ActionTec GT704WG from, originally, Verizon and now Frontier. I found updated firmware but Verizon apparently disabled the ability to update the firmware as the message I get says "cannot write....". At the other location, the router is again from Verizon and is a Westell but I do not have the model number handy.

The network is setup for DHCP but the IP on the printer has been set manually. When I did that, the PRIMARY and SECONDARY DNS options are disabled so both are set to 0.0.0.0. The default gateway is set per the results of running ipconfig in a cmd window and the submask is set to 255.255.255.0. There is no proxy on either network.

I will be at the other location this evening and check the settings on that printer to see if there is anything different. I am not sure if something didn't get confused in the setup since I have two printers of the same type. The problem printer was just purchased. The software was already installed on this computer, but after installing the disk and running the setup, there was additional software installed.

hi again Larry72758;

I will evaluate your current configuration to see if I can suggest a way to make it work but if a vialable option for you  should evaluated/ upgrade the router situation this will prevent you from trouble shooting some basics to almost all complex situation in your network.  I will be back with you as soon as can, perhaps monday becuase in the evening.

Hope that I can be of  help:
