Two of the cartridges that came with the printer were replaced with XL cartridges (yellow and magenta).  It still has original blue and black cartridges.  It will print in black but not in color.  Thoughts?  Thanks.

 Did you replace the empty ink cartridges with genuine non refilled HP cartridges? Both the XL and regular cartridges are compatible with the printer and should be able to be used interchangeably without causing a problem with the printer.  The only difference will be the page yield because the XL cartridge will deliver more output.  Now, the color cartridges are to be replaced with 933 and 933 XL and the black ink is replaced with 932 and 932 XL cartridges.  I would look at this document here to address the print quality issue that you are having with the printer. It will provide troubleshooting steps to take in an attempt fix the missing color issue that you are having with the machine. I hope that this helps.

Thanks.  Turned out that the regular cartridges were both low on ink, just that notification didn't pop up for a while.  Owner replaced (with XL--all are HP) and everything is working now.
