Okay, I found the 990c driver (updated the list with Windows Update). It installs fine but it cannot print at all! This is starting to get very irritating...

Do you happen to know what the port should be?

HP Recommended

I made a mistake, the info I gave you is for the HP P1215 printer.

No, I do have the HP PSC 1215. Is there anything else that you know of that I can do?

HP Recommended

No I am sorry, you were correct with your initial conclusion.

what was that? that the printer is too old for windows 7?

but on the HP website it says nothing about compatability problems!

HP Recommended

"This program [HP Director aka HP ImageZone] has known compatibility issues" it says if you try to open it, and I guess it's these same issues that make Printing Preferences inaccessible.

Meanwhile, my mail to the HP MD is still in the ether. A reply is expected in a few days time and I will post it as soon as it is available.

What did I say? Oh yes.... "Meanwhile, my mail to the HP MD is still in the ether. A reply is expected in a few days time and I will post it as soon as it is available.".

I have sent a reminder, but am still waiting.

Classic stuff, this!

No reply yet received from the MD to my query, even though I have sent a reminder. But today, the message below was sent to me.

oh my gosh. this is so annoying!

I just realised that the same thing happens with my HP PSC 2170 Series (which is connected to a networked computer). I can connect to it, but I just can't change the printing preferences! Maybe Windows 7 just has a grudge against HP? 😄
