Hi IgorO & hansvy,

Try the steps i provided in the private message to each of you, and let me know if you still have the same issue?

We tried this by phone over a month ago...It does not work. I appreciate you trying to help but instead of providing canned troubleshooting steps, the most helpful thing you could do is have HP product folks look into this problem.

I agree with Igor.  I also reset the printer but it did not solve the problem.  I also reinstalled the printer software also to no effect.   Could this be some sort of sensor issue...the sensor that "sees" the paper in the ADF seems to work fine because the feeder goes through all the pages.  However, when that happens, the scanner engine is not being activated.

Remember that that scanner also works fine on the flatbed so the actual scanner engine works fine.  It seems this is not a software issue since if is was, then my reinstallation of the printer softward should have fixed it?

So far I spent five hours on this.....its probably cheaper to just purchase another one :).

Yes - it's a hardware issue and likely a simple one to fix which is why I don't see the value of shipping my device away (and losing even the basic printing functionality in the meantime) to have it looked at and maybe fixed at a TBD cost.

Could someone from the HP product or engineering teams please advise on a do-it-yourself fix for this issue? I imagine there are many frustrated customers experiencing it. The mispick, reset printer, and reinstall software/drivers solutions just do not work.

I too have the same problem and i have tried EVERYTHING  suggested both on line and in the posts. I think whomever these HP employees who are responding don't understand is that the printer/scanner shouldn't fail like this after such short periods of time. Multiple failures of the same sort with such little usage isn't user error it's HP failure. We can certainly call the support line but it is painful and all they want you to do is pay for help which doesn't do anything. I agree that for the same price as service, you can buy a new printer/scanner in a different brand.

Hi snafubetty,

I can understand your frustration with this issue. If you printer is still under the normal 1 year warranty or you have an extended warranty care pack then it will not cost you anything to speak with our customer support. If the printer is found to have a hardware issue we can then process a replacment printer under the warranty at no cost to you. If you are out of warranty then there are still options for you. Check out the additional support options at the link below.

ah, you may think you understand, but you don't. The printer is BARELY out of warranty. It should have lasted longer and your service options are probably NOT going to solve the problem. If they did, I'd pay the money but if it needs a part and this and that and the other, i might as well buy a different printer by the time i pay to fix the one i have. Here's the frustrating part. It obviously is a recurring problem with multiple people, there should be some technical info online for those who are having the problem. Perhaps HP could address it as opposed to sending everyone to a link about a mispick . . . it isn't a mispick, it's a faulty piece of machinery.

Hi snafubetty,

Let me see if there is something I can do to get this working for you.

Do you get the message Original loaded when you insert the paper into the ADF?

Does the ADF attempt to pull the paper into the unit?

Have you updated the firmware on this printer?

Thank you.

i have updated the firmware, updated the software, switched computers, cleaned all the elements, reset the device, looked for ANYTHING that may be in the way, etc.

it feeds the sheets through very quickly without producing an output, either a scan or copy. in other words, the ADF elements to feed it through are working correctly, it is for some reason not stopping to scan it either for print or copy.

it is not a jam, it is not a mispick, it is purely not doing anything with the documents it sends through.
