This sounds promising and supports my previous suspicions. Since my (now) old HP is nothing more than an awkward paper weight, I can tinker with it. Would you happen to have the part number for the ribbon? I browsed around and can't seem to find it (though it might be sold as part of some assembly). Is this a legitimate place to buy parts - http://www.partshere.com/hppartslist/hpparts.asp?part=CE538A?

By the way, HP, in case you are curious - my Canon unit has been working splendidly! I've printed, scanned, faxed more in the last 6 months than your 1536 single function hunk of junk ever let me.

I had my parts dpt. order them for me and am not sure where they get them, but it is an 11 pin ribbon cable 18 inches by 1/2 inch. I repair at least 3 or 4 of these a week and this is the solution 100% of the time.

I wish I could subtract kudos for this response.

Hi Igor0,

It appears that everyone is having a hardware issue with the ADF, so in turn I gave everyone the support options available no matter if they are in warranty or out of warranty. Sorry to hear you don't feel that this is a viable option at this time. Have a wonderful day.

I am disappointed with your response (and disenchanted with HP) because this thread has been in play for a long time with many customers reporting an issue which you have repeatedly failed to escalate to the right channels. Instead, we all got the same canned "contact HP service" response five times. Yes, I counted.

There is no value in this response so why post it for the sake of posting? Take the time instead to frame this issue to your management and demand escalation to product mgmt & engineering on behalf of your frustrated consumers. Especially now that there is a root cause theory. Regardless of what you choose to do, I am escalating this as soon as I confirm dbs75's theory about the ADF ribbon cable with my own printer.

I like your Canon solution. HP just lost a customer. Back in the day, their printers were da Bomb! Now they are just bombs! This was a bad F_ck Up!

My HP 1536dnf just fell out of warranty, and guess what?

I'm also getting the ADF problem.  I did the steps, and the ADF is still not functioning.

I'm beginning to think that Brother, Canon, Mita, Xerox, etc. may be good solutions instead of trying to repair the HP 1536dnf.
