Good to hear.
I wonder why HP do not officially make the amended firmware available to their customers ?
This annoying issue had been persisting for almost 2 years and I spent hours on the phone with HP.
All good now, thanks to IronBadger.

Thank you so much for the software update. Fixed my printer. Its a bummer this has been available but hidden for so long. I finally gave up months ago and bought a fujitsu scanner. Now they both work. Anyway, much appreciated! J.

@ironbadger
Hello,
2 weeks after applying the update our printer has twice disappeared from our LAN (wired ethernet) and we had to re-boot. As this had never happened in 2 years this new issue is most likely caused by the firmware update.
Curious if others with a wired connection have observed this well.
Regards,

I Have had the same exact problem with an HP M426fdw. Won't scan above 75dpi. I also have a HP8600 Plus ink jet and it will scan up to 600dpi using the same the same setup and scan to folder on the Mac on the same network both are hard wired. Hp has been NO help. Apple tried their best and downloaded info for the engineers. Said it "might be fixed in next upgrade or firmware release". It been almost a year and half. Current release I have is 20180201. It only took God a week to create and test the earth.

The printer firmware to address this issue has been posted publicly for the M477, M426 and M427.
Please go to support.hp.com/drivers select Printer and type in your printer model. The exact printer name should autofill.
On the driver page select Mac OS and macOS 10.14.
Then open the firmware section.
Download and install the new firmware using the update utility.

I had previously installed the prerelease firmware and in the System settings on my M477FDW the firmware datecode said 20180201SC. When I downloaded and tried installing this official release, the installer would not automically find my printer so I had to click the "Add Device Manually" checkbox and enter the appropriate 192.168.xxx.xxx address. Not sure if that had anything to do with the prerelease version making it non-discoverable or something, but just thought I'd share in case someone else runs into that issue. Once I put in the 192 address the firmware updated without any issue and now the datecode says 20190113.
