My scanning problem has been solved with the help of Badger. There is a new firmware release for thr m426fdw. It's date code is 20190113. I had a problen on the download page where you put in your operating system and software version. It said nothing was available but when you click on the button"Change" on the right side of the screen the new release appeared.
It took the software installer several tries and several minutes to fine the printer, but it did fine it.
I can now scan at all dpi levels. It took a year (and many hours trying) to solve this problem. It never scan properly from the day it was installed, and I even got a new printer because the first one did the same thing. Nice testing of products on HP's part, and even worse support of products in the field. All they had to do was read the feedback from users to see they had a problem. Remember, we users don't know what we are talking about in our posts from the HP engineers point of view. Better yet, they could start by reading all the posts from users for product fixes and improvements.

The solution does not work for me. According to some posts in this thread, the fix is no longer working after Mac OS update 13.1.1. I tried to install the latest firmware but I still only see the one from february 2018. When going through some comments in this thread, there is apparently a newer version from march 2018, which is fixing the issue, but not available for MFP M277 series. I'm also willing to install the beta firmware from IronBadger, if I can get my hands on it, but don't know where to get it or how to contact him.

Not sure what you mean by MacOS 13.1.1 as the most recent version is 10.14.3 or 10.14.4 beta.... I'm on 10.13.6 and the February firmware update worked for me. You can contact IronBadger by clicking his icon on one of his posts to bring up his profile. Then click on the Send A Message button.
