I had to replace a router in a home of a neighbor, they previously had the subject printer connected wirelessly. The new router forced me to change the passphrase for the wireless connection from what was previously used. The same SSID IS being used on the new router. I have tried all attempts to reset the network settings on the printer and whenever I do and then repeat the wireless setup, be it by WPS, PIN or CD-ROM and USB cable, in ALL cases the connection fails and in best cases says security passphrase is wrong or in worst cases that the printer does NOT see the CORRECT wireless network.
The oddest part, apart from the total lack of a solution on the HP forums, or even in the manuals, is that the printer keeps picking up an odd-ball SSID, "HPCP1525-135f8d", mode is ad-hoc and the IP comes up with a "bogus" number which does NOT match any local network, 169.254.123.35. I have seen IP's like this before on PC NIC adapters which cannot connect, I believe this is some kind of internally assigned IP, not from any networking device. That combined with the bogus SSID, I am confident the printer is the source of this BAD configuration data.
I have even tried to manually set the IP, using a reserved IP on the router which I set up just for this printer. Still nothing, it fails to connect and collects and saves this bad SSID and IP.
How the h*ll do you get the NVRAM of the printer to drop this IP and FORGET that SSID?
Do NOT tell me to re-run setup, I have tried multiple times, that may temporarily clear the data, but in re-running the setup it to again collects and SAVES the bad configuration data.
My best guess, and another solution which cannot be found ANYWHERE, is how do you do a HARD factory reset on the printer??? I have just about had my fill of the user-friendliness of these HP interface and setup software!!!!!

I found this on an earlier post and it works for the person. You have to first connect the printer with a ethernet cable to your network router as there should be ports available and then follow the instructions below:
The No-Bull**bleep** Way To Setup Your HP CP1525nw For Wireless Printing
- Connect the printer to your router via ethernet cable.
- At this point you might need to navigate via the LCD and printer buttons to the Network setup. It’s a simple menu tree that you navigate via clicking the arrow buttons and clicking OK. Just connect via Ethernet and use DHCP. It should connect itself to your network.
- Once the printer connects to your network it will display its IP address on the printer’s built-in LCD screen.
Enter that IP address into a web browser on a computer that is on the same network. After you click enter you will be presented with a web-based administration interface for your printer.
- Click on the “Networking” tab.
- Click on “Wireless Configuration” on the left-hand options.
- Status should be “ON”
Configuration Method should be “Join an existing network”.
Network Name should present a list of available networks. Click on yours.
Authentication should be set according to your network - Click APPLY and disconnect the wired connection to the router. The little wireless light on the front of the printer will start blinking as it connects to your router wirelessly. Once the light is solid the printer’s new IP address should be displayed on the built-in LCD display. You should now be able to connect using that ip address.

I have reset the printer to "default settings" multiple times using the menus on the printer. I still do NOT have any clue how to disable the Wireless Direct and your "guidance" doesn't help, as you do not tell me HOW to disable it. I have printed the Menu Structure report and under no menu is there any settings for disabling Wireless Direct. I cannot access the built-in web-enabled server as the printer is NOT on any network and therefore not accessible. I have looked in the HP Toolbox, where the printer does appear, but when I try to select an option such as "Network Setup" it immediately replies back "Cannot connect to printer, assure it is connected and turned on". IT IS!!!
I am fed up with this, I am NO LONGERING going to recommend to anyone to purchase an HP printer, they are absolutely impossible to configure (if it doesn't work right out of the box the first time.) This printer worked fine with the old router, but that router died. I had to replace it. NOW... nothing, I cannot get this DAMNED printer to reset and connect to the router, what a piece of **bleep**!!!! I am apoplectic. JUST TELL ME HOW TO RESET THE DAMNED PRINTER TO ALL FACTORY DEFAULTS IN CLEAR AND CONCISE STEPS, DO NOT SAY IT IS EASY, JUST FOLLOW THE MANUAL, BECAUSE THE MANUALS ARE JUST AS WORTHLESS AS THIS SUPPORT. CAN YOU TRY AND REDEEM YOURSELVES HERE? PLEASE!

Calm Down! This is user support forum where most posts are done by users and not people who work for hp. Not sure if you are using the right restore defaults method. Below is a link to restore. Hope it helps. If not post back and maybe someone else may have a solution for you. Most times when you restore due to a change in router for wireless you need to remove all the software from the computer using the add/remove programs and then after the restore is done, reload the software as though you just took the printer out of the box.

Thank you DZ & ST-04, but alas, I have done all of that already as well, including the complete uninstall. I hope you all understand my frustration level (and I have seen HP employees post on these forums, my greatest anger is at them and the Customer Service branch of HP.)
I have ended up so far just installing the printer on one PC (via USB cable) and sharing thru Windows for her husband's PC. Not the best solution, especially considering it worked fine wirelessly before using the old router.
As for the factory reset, I am not convinced that that is working properly, unless the built-in wireless direct print server is on by default. This feature appears to be the root of my problem and I cannot find a way to disable it.
ANYONE have any more suggestions (now that I have calmed down... somewhat! I am still VERY displeased with HP's written manuals and online support venues, public forum support excluded. : )
Still not connecting to wireless, and for the record, two other PC's and a Blu-ray player connect and are functioning just fine on the new router.

Well if you haven't figured it out, most of us here do not have or have access to every printer. We have to use the manuals just like you. Restoring Network defaults appears to enable the Wireless Direct (ad-hoc) method also. You will know this when your computer sees another SSID with some type of HP name or product number maybe, in the SSID.
There should be some way of disabling this so it does not transmit. Maybe someone will step in here and let us know.

Thx DZ... that is something I have NOT tried (I did try the USB port connection on the router, boy is that convoluted... I don't recommend that... for ANYONE!) I will head over there today and try that and post back when done. : )
THAT did it! Thank you, I don't know why I did not think of that. I tried the USB cable connection to the router, but did not try the ethernet connection. As described, once I had established the network connection via cable I was finally able to access the web interface of the printer thru the IP address. Once there I was able to access a much more detailed wireless configuration page which showed the networks available and provided a field to enter the NEW passphrase.
I hope anyone else who has wireless connection problems can find this posting! Stick a fork in it, it is DONE! Ciao!

this was extremely helpful but I found that I had to do one more step to get it to work:
I had to reinstall the printer driver and choose the wireless option when installing to get the printer to actually print wirelessly. If the steps mentioned do not work, try this.
