Thanks very much for the instructions on how to reset the firmware.  I was successful in recovering the printer via the method outlined in the link above.  It was not too complicated but does require some technical awareness and good eyes to see the jumper / circuit board connects.  Still feel like sending hp an invoice for my time spent on their firmware problem.

Hi, I ordered a replacement formatter board from Aliexpress as the jumper trick didn't work for me. I've installed it but have the error "needs boid rfu 6d" which is similar to the one I think Joop had. Does anyone have the software from Aliexpress to initialise the board - I think it's the "zenith.rfu" quoted earlier. Got the other files but these don't seem to get past this initial problem (i.e. tried usbsend and the various other rfu files)

Hi many thanks for the software. That got past the “boid rfu 6d” error. I then used the jumper trick to send the April 2022 firmware which seemed to work ok. Unfortunately I still have the yellow warning triangle error “resend upgrade”. I’ve replaced the formatter board and reflashed the firmware - is there anything else that I need to do?

Because I have a European model, I didn't have the 2 pins from the above solutions.   

For that part, I had to switch to this story:

If you have non-genuine toners, you'll have to install the firmware '20200612 firmware release' + unselect the automatic firmware upgrade option.

Hi, I have the same error with my HP MFP 283 fdn. Can anyone tell me where I can find the correct firmware? Using the linked firmware for the 281 shows the same result: ServiceError49.
