HP Envy 5532, HP Pavilion desk
Windows 8.1

I bought a HP Envy 5532 printer and set it up on my home wifi network. It has given me an IP address and shows a strong wifi connection. The installation software requests this IP address but immediately returns a "Unable to find printer" message.

I have disabled windows firewall and AVG firewall but this hasn't helped.

Hello @Farmatech,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you're experiencing issues when attempting to connect  your HP ENVY 5532 e-All-in-One Printer for wireless printing with your Windows 8.1 computer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. Now, you indicate that you are receiving an IP address on your printer. I am going to have you use this IP Address to determine if your printer and computer are in fact on the same wireless network. Can I please have you run through the steps below.

Check EWS Browser:

  1. On your printers front panel select the Setup Button (wrench)
  2. Select the Wireless option
  3. Select View Wireless Details
  4. Take note of the IP Address
  5. On your Windows 8.1 computer open your internet browser
  6. In the address bar type in the IP Address that you copied off the front panel of your HP Envy
  7. Do not type www. Just type in the IP Address. Example: 192.168.1.5
  8. Search this website
  • If an HP Envy website opens: than your printer and computer are communicating on the same wireless network
  • If an HP Envy website fails to open: than your printer and computer are not on the same network

Please respond to this post with the result of trying to open the printers EWS Browser. Once I find out if the computer and printer are actually 'speaking' wirelessly to each other I will be able to guide you towards a resolution. I look forward to hearing from you! 🙂
