Envy 4500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I need to create custom paper sizes but when I use Print Server Properties to create one it does not show up in size lists in Publisher. Some research seems to point out that this is not available with Windows, only MacOS. Is this true?

If so, what printer can I use - hopefully in the Envy class?

Custom Form

IF the printer supports the feature (there are indications that it will); the custom form is created using "Create form" as explained in Creating Custom Paper Sizes.

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Left-Click on your Printer one time to highlight >

 Left-Click Print Server properties

Create the new form using a template (starting form) of the same type; for example, if your new form is created for the purpose of printing on Cardstock / Brochure / Photo paper, use an "original" form of that type from the Forms List.

Restart the computer after you create the new form.

The new form should now be listed and available to the printer software.

Publisher

The Publisher program may not be able to "see" the custom form.  This might happen if the program is unable to update its list from the printer software or if the program does not use the printer software as the source for its paper sizes.  (Speculation.)

After you create the Custom Form for the printer software, try the following to create the Pulisher-side form settings:

Thanks for the info.

I had already done your first step - using Print Server setting to create a cucstom size.

But while Publisher does allow creating a custom page size, when it comes to printing the Print dialog does not show the custom paper size in the list of available sizes so will not set up the print job for the custom size

I suspect (based on looking at what others have said over the years), the fault (issue, difficutly) lies with (at least) older versions of Publisher.

This is a guess only.

One such indication that this may be the case is explained in this Microsoft forum Thread:

Publisher 2010 can not print custom sized pdf

If what is said in the thread is true, then it may be necessary to export the file and then use another program that allows the use of Custom Sizes forms list to print the data.

I could well have missed something; I don't use Publisher (old or new versions).

If I find anything useful, I will post back.

It is unfortunate the Publisher software does not have access to the Custom paper size form available in the printer software.

From the outside looking in, it appears the issue is not the Custom form -- the program you are using won't make use of the complete forms list.

Most PDF output can make use of the latest version Adobe Reader DC , which in my experience allows access to the entire forms list, including any Custom forms.  (The rules about combinations still applies:  Shortcut must match Media, must match Size, etc.)

For PDF data that the printer software cannot translate, Adobe Reader provides printing the file as an image.

If the exported data is in the form of a .png or .jpg file (for example), there are several software-friendly programs that provide access to the full forms list that includes the custom form(s) you have created.

If the data can be printed at all, it could be scanned back into the computer and then printed on custom form using one of the programs that provide access to the custom forms list.

For the moment I am out of ideas.

If you have not done so, I suggest you pose the question at the Microsoft Community forum.
