I am trying to connect my new printer to my laptop wirelessly for the first time. I have been able to connect other wireless printers to the computer in the past.

The unusual thing about my problem is that my HP Network Configuration page prints (whether connected via USB or not (I print it by pressing the actual printer buttons)) and shows that my Diagnostic Results are all PASS,and the printer will print with the USB cord. Yet somehow, when I try to set up the wireless connection, or even just print without the USB, nothing happens. When not plugged in, I can still see the printer on my available printer list. So somehow the computer and printer are both seeing each other, but not communicating properly. Does anyone have any possible solutions or resources I can use?

If this is helpful, my computer is an HP Pavilion dm4 running Windows 7.

Hello,

Did you try downloading and installing the latest software which will automatically connect the printer to your network?

You can find it here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=al-117579-2&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...

Also, if you still can't connect, please download and run the HP Print & Scan Doctor and see if it resolves the issue: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?cc=us&lc=en&jumpid=ex_r4155/hho/ipg/ccdoc/p...

Thanks

Sorry to hear that your computer cannot discover your network printer.

If the blue wireless light on the printer is still blinking or off, it is unconnected to the network.

To reset the network defaults on the printer, hold down the Wireless and the Red X button simultaneously until the power button starts to blink, then release both buttons. The blue wireless light should be blinking.

To connect the printer you can either use your computer and connect directly to the printer:

1. From your computer, connect to HP-Setup-XX-Deskjet 2540 series from the list of wireless networks.

2. Once connected to the printer, open your web browser and type in 192.168.223.1 into the addressbar and press enter.

3. In the printer web utility page, click WIreless Setup Wizard.

4. Follow the prompts to connect the printer to your router.

Or if your router has a WPS button you can connect the printer with this method:

1. Press and hold down the Wireless button on the printer for 3 seconds then release.

2. Press and hold down the WPS button on the router for 3 seconds then release.

3. The light on the printer should go from blinking to solid in about 3 minutes.

From here, run the printer software from your computer. Start>All Programs>HP>Deskjet 3540>Printer Setup & Software.

Select configure new printer, then wireless.

There should also be an option to Convert your USB connected printer to Wireless. You might want to try this option if you haven't already yet in the Printer Setup & Software link from the Start menu.

Please let me know how it goes.

Thanks

I got so frustrated I called tech support since my printer is still in warranty and he walked me through fixing it. The key seemed to be restarting my router and then entering the new IP address for my deskjet (the old one wasn't working) manually into the wireless connection setup process. I'm so glad it's finally fixed!!
