The firmware version looks like its all the same. But I want to order the formatter and depending on what revision it is, its a different part number.

I would think that means you'd need to know the product number, such as Q4719, that number is listed in the information screen of the printer and on the serial number plate on the rear right hand side

Right, which is the CR650B number I listed above. Just cant find anything that tells the difference between the original and the revision.

I've never had to order one of those so I'm not sure of the information required, as far as I know the product code should be enough to make sure the proper firmware is installed on the hard drive. The only revisions or versions I can think of would be new firmware updates that may have been released since that formatter card was produced. I'm not sure where you get your parts, but I'd try to talk to someone there to verify you'll be ordering the right one. You may have to update the firmware once you get it too.

Sounds good, thanks for your help Tim.

You are very welcome, keep me updated on this if you wouldn't mind.

Ok, I installed a new formatter, plotter gets to about 48 percent initialization and then the 01.0:10 error again. HP recommends replacing the sausalito pci pca next, and then the main pca if that doesnt work. What in the world is a Sausalito pci pca? I can find no such animal in the manual. Also,  when replacing a formatter its not necessary to replace the HD, correct?

Disregard the Suasdalito, that wasnt Hp's suggestion after all, looks like next in line is the engine pca. Which I assume they mean the main board? I sure wish Hp would pick a single name and stick to it. Any thoughts on this being the next step?

Also, with both the old and new formatter, when the error comes up i looked at the led's and the 1st led is flashing with the other two solid. I didnt see anything in the manual that showed this particular combination.

Hello Alan,

Sorry to hear you are still having problems.  I'm not sure why, but I was thinking you were going to order the formatter with the hard drive installed?  That model does allow them to be ordered seperately.

You are right, the engine pca they are talking about is the main board/electronics module.  I do not know where everything in firmware updates gets stored so I don't think there is any way to know what may get damaged by a firmware update gone wrong.

That code is not real specific but it does point to the electronics module, and since that is where the formatter plugs into, that would definitely be the next logical step.

Typically the first line of tech support at HP is just someone reading from a manual or script, they are not techs, their boss's boss's usually have more valid suggestions if you can get to that level of support.
