My printer has been working just fine and last night it would not print any thing.  I tried all sorts of documents (pdf, word, etc.) and nothing will print.  It says the printer is connected but it also says "the printer's door is open." I have opened and closed every door on this printer and can't figure out which door it referrs to.  As far as I can see, every door is closed!  Please help!  Many work documents need to be printed!

Hi @lisamkelley,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I see that you're unable to print because of the error message "printer's door is open" on your HP Deskjet 2540 Printer. I would be happy to help you and please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue.

It sounds like the cartridge door is open, close the cartridge access door.

If the issue persist, and you have confirmed that the cartridge access door is closed.

I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.

  • Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector) This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.

I would try the steps within this guide, The Attention Light Blinks (Paper Jam) for HP Deskjet 2540 and HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2545 All-in-...s.

Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you. Good Luck! 🙂

Thank you for the reply.  The door was definetly closed and a reboot didn't help.  I didn't try plugging into the wall vs. powerstrip because I was able to get past this by refiguring the wifi connection.  I must have had something to do with that because when I diabled wifi, the error message went away.

Thanks!

Hi @lisamkelley,

I'm very happy to hear that the issue is resolved. 🙂

It would appear that the error message was on your computer not the printer anymore. If the computer and the printer lost communication the computer can't update the printers status, thus still thinking the printer is in an error state. Once you reconnected the printer, the computer realized that the printer was no longer in an error state.

In addition, the power can cause these types of issues. If you experiencing issues again,  make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector) This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum. Have a great day!
