Hi koyyott,
The gear you are talking about is used to run the feed exit rollers you are pointing to in the picture. This gear is not blocking the sensor for the arm on the door which is below the gear. If you have the door open, and I can tell from the pictures that the arm is indeed in place as it should be then you are having a hardware issue with this printer. You will need to call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

Hi LHeinicke13,
If the door open arm is not broken or unclipped from the tray and you are still getting the message it is most likely due to the sensor either not working correctly or the internal PCA board has an issue. I would suggest making sure that the arm is not broken or damaged. This arm is only there to inform the printer if the output tray has been lowered to accept paper or if it is in the closed position.

Hi LHeinicke13,
If the sensor arm is not causing the issue then it would have to be either the sensor itself or the PCA board where the sensor is connected. You can try unclipping the arm, and then manually press it in and out to see if you can get the message to clear. If this doesn't work then yes it would be a hardware issue on the printer. If the printer is still in warranty you will need to call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link below to get the support number for your region. I have also included the link to the out of warranty support options available to you.

Hi LHeinicke13,
Let me know what you find out when you unclip the sensor arm to manually move the arm to see if the message clears?
