Deskjet 3054 error "not connected" comes up after selecting WPS option. System used to work with WiFi under Maverick, but stopped with two changes: Comcast updated router and OSX update. HP support claims they do not have driver for OSX-10.10 Yosemite...So what can I do to get connected to the new WiFi network?

Hey @dndutter,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the networking issue you're experiencing with your HP Deskjet 3054 All-in-One Printer. Since you got a new router from Comcast the wireless would need to be set up in again on your Deskjet in order for it to work with the new router. Because you're getting the message 'not connected' when attempting the WPS option it would appear that your new router doesn't support that setup. After selecting the WPS button on the printer, the printer starts a timer that allows you about two minutes to press the WPS button on your wireless router. If you do not have a WPS button on your router than unfortunately Comcast neglected to provide you a WPS capable router and you will need to connect wirelessly via a USB cable. This may also be problematic on your Mac OS X 10.10 Operating System as you do not have Full Feature Software and Drivers. The last Mac operating system that offered Full Feature Software and Drivers for your product was Mac OS X 10.8. Therefore, you will be using the generic Apple Update driver.
If you have a Windows computer or a Mac running 10.8 and below you could run the Full Feature Installation on that computer in order to set the printer up for wireless via the USB connection. Once the printer is set up for wireless than just simply add it to your Mac OS X 10.10 Operating System and you should have full functionality. Should this not be an option than you will need to do an Ad Hoc setup of wireless.
How to Properly Install on Mac OS X 10.10:
Note: You will need a USB cable temporarily for this configuration.
Step 1: Uninstall Drivers:
Just open Print & Scan under System Preferences and ensure that your Deskjet does not show in the Print & Scan window. If it does, select the printer and (-) minus it out to remove it.
Step 2: Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:
- Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications
- Go to the Utilities Folder
- Open the Disk Utility
- Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left)
- Select Verify Disk Permissions
- Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions
Step 3: Check for Apple Updates:
Plug in your USB Cable from your Deskjet to your Mac.
- Go to Apple
- Select System Preferences
- Select Software Update
- Click Update Now
- Install your available updates
- Restart your computer
Step 4: Add the Printer:
- Go to Apple
- Select System Preferences
- Select Print & Scan - If your USB printer is not showing as added in already than click the (+) plus to add the correct driver in.
- Now that the correct driver is added in for your printer you can connect the wireless.
Disconnect your USB Cable again please
How to Set up Wireless Via Ad Hoc:
1. Select the Wireless button on the front panel of your printer
2. Under the Wireless menu select Settings
3. Under Settings select Enable Wireless
4. Once Wireless is enabled on your printer the blue light should be blinking
5. Once your Mac select your wireless icon. Under the list of available networks you should see one similar to that like the HP Photosmart that is circled in the picture below. However, instead of Photosmart it will say HP Deskjet 3054.
6. Connect to the Network that appears with your HP Deskjet 3054 in it.
7. The Wireless light on your printer should go solid after a few mins. At this point you want to print a new Network Configuration Report.
- On the HP product control panel, press the Wireless button (
). The Wireless menu displays.
- Press the button (
) next to Print Reports
8. On the new Network Configuration Report take the new 169.254.xxx.xxx IP Address and open your Internet Browser.
9. Your Internet Browser will not load an actual website because you're not on the Internet right now:
10. Take your new IP Address 169.254.xxx.xxx and enter it in the web page address bar anyways and go to that website.
11. Click the Networking tab at the top:
12. Click on Wireless Setup Wizard on the left.
13. You now should have the option for Infrastructure, select that.
14. Select your Network Name (SSID) and enter in your WEP or WPA Wireless password.
15. Select Apply
16. On your Mac click on the Wireless icon at the top and Reconnect to your normal Internet Network
17. Go to Apple - System Preferences - select Print and Scan
18. Click the Plus (+) button to add your Bonjour printer
You should now be able to use your printer wirelessly. I know it seems like a lot of steps but I wanted to provide you as much detail as possible as the setup through ad hoc can be a bit confusing.
Please let me know if this resolves your issue. Good luck! 🙂
