I'm using windows 8.1 and my deskjet f2480 won't detect the paper. I don't know what's the problem.

Hi crisdlv,

I would like to help you with your Deskjet F2480. I understand it is not detecting the paper, I imagine it says something like 'out of paper', or simply will not pick up the paper when you try to print. Please complete all of the recommended solutions in the following document to resolve the issue; The Printer Does Not Pick Up or Feed Paper.

I hope this helps.

I think the problem is with the OS because I tried using the Deskjet F2480 in my old pc and its OS is Windows XP and it works perfectly without the "out of paper" problem. But when I use the printer in my other pc and its OS is Windows 8.1 the problem "out of paper" occurs. I have already installed the drivers needed but still I don't know why it doesn't work.

Hi crisdlv,

You could be right, have you tried the HP Print and Scan Doctor?

The HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free utility (tool) that helps to quickly resolve common printing, scanning and connectivity issues including but not limited to:

  • Connectivity :
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
  • Device Status Test : Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
  • Driver Check : Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
  • Device Manager : Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
  • Device Online : Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
  • Print Queue : Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
  • Port Match : Checks the port settings for the HP product.
  • Device Conflicts : Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
  • Ink Issues : Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
  • Print Settings : Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
  • Test Print : Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
  • Scan Tests : Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
You can also click the Printer menu to find the additional features such as cleaning printheads, aligning printheads, checking ink levels, and viewing advanced printer data for your selected printer.

Click here to download and run the utility > HP Print and Scan Doctor

Please let me know the outcome. You will see a wrench, a yellow exclamation mark, a red X, or a check mark next each tested item.

Hello HP Deskjet F2480 Windows 10 Users,

I'm running Windows 10 Professional 32bit and using the F2480 which had this issue happen AFTER I did the latest driver install method I posted in this link below:

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/HP-Deskjet-F2480-Windows-10-Drivers/td-p/5...

The HP Solution Center in the software suite no matter what fix is applied shows the printer is out of paper on the software program. Please note the hardware after the align cartridges in the HP Solution Center causes this issue, and the physical fix is to actually move the grey paper slider to fit the paper type firmly, and then push it as much as possible toward the back of the paper feed tray area without forcing the paper into the printer. Then either try a print job or do this activity while performing a print job to remedy the issue.

I have no blinking amber light on my paper feed on physical printer control panel but HP Solution Center still shows I still I have the following issue:

I did fix my printer with the physical steps used above, and noticed the software issue still remains! To verify my printer is in-fact working, I used the HP Scan and Print Doctor using this link "since the links posted in the prior posts above this post are no longer working: *USE THIS LINK BELOW/MY PRINTER IS NOW FIXED / WORKS VERIFIED BY HP PRINT AND SCAN DOCTOR*

May this help the next person who runs into this issue using one of the newer Windows 8/8.1/10 OS so you don't have to worry and enjoy using your HP Deskjet F2480 Printer/Scanner!

FINAL EDIT: I decided to uninstall/reinstall the HP Windows 10 Driver Software Suite for this printer, and after successful completion, skipped the first alignment request in HP Solution Center [Align Cartridge], and only did the second alignment request for the scanner [with the alignment paper I printed in the first software setup] only and now my F2480 is working correctly!

Here is proof of it now working correctly for anyone else who runs into this issue:
