This printer is driving me up the wall. It is connected to the network. 2 computers are able to access it wirelessly without any problem. All are running Windows 7 (2 connected are 32 and 64-bit, the one that won't connect is 32-bit). However, the 3rd cannot connect no matter what I do. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software & drivers and no matter what I do the setup says unable to connect. I even used the troubleshooting wizard the program told me to download and none of it worked. The connection wizard finds the printer as a network printer, but it simply won't connect to it.
When I connect the printer via USB, the printer is recognized by the computer as a printer but not all features are available and the HP software does not recognize it as being connected. Neither scanning nor printing works. I could deal with the wireless not working because it sits right next to this particular computer, but the fact that it won't connect even when attached via USB is boggling my mind.

Sorry to hear you are going through so much. I want to focus on the fact you are having wireless problems at the moment since you have three computers that you would like to connect to it. Do not worry about unplugging the USB cord for any of these steps. Just use the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer if you haven't already and follow the link below for some of the basic steps and let me know if you have tried this already on the computer that just won't install.
--Unable to Find Printer-- and start on Step 7.
Let me know if this doesn't work for you and if not, what anti-virus software are you using on that 32-bit computer? What makes it different than the other computer(s)? Are you getting any specific error message?

I am not having wireless problems, though. The printer will not 'attach' using either wireless or wired methods. It finds the printer every time, it simply won't install it.
The PC is running AVG 2013. The PC is not unique from the others in any way other than it is an Acer (the others are Dell & HP). Sometimes I can open the 5510 control panel program (normally it just gives me the spinning circle and nothing happens), but it gives me script errors (nothing displayed). If I access it via the Devices and Printers menu, it is missing several features, including scanning.

I understand now. I want to try something that, as of late, has been the last resort and yet it is fixing this. Consider this a test: create a new User Account with admin rights under the Control Panel and try installing the printer that way. Let me know if this installs. It is a trick that has been giving functionality back to the main user account.

I really hope this works. Keep me posted. If this works on the new User Account, it seems to get the other one to work too. Here is the forum post with instructions.

Unfortunately, this fix did not work. It gave me the exact same errors.
I managed to add it as a network printer via Windows, but unfortunately this means I get none of the functionality like scanning.

So you say you were able to get it to install but you cannot scan? Can you print?
What happens when you go to All Programs>>HP>>Photosmart folder>>HP Scan? Do you get any error messages when you click on HP Scan? Is the network printer installed on your original user account or the new user account you just created?
By the way, you can access a lot of the printer's functions by typing in the printer's IP address in a web browser and accessing its embedded web server. This will allow you to Web Scan at the very least while you and I work on getting this printer full functionality.

In other words, I added it via Windows and not via the HP software, which finds the printer in the setup but cannot connect to it. When I click on the HP Scan the I just get the spinning circle and nothing happens.
I installed it on the new user acct, and received the same errors as before. I tried removing it completely from the original user account, then adding it to the new account, and I still received the same errors.
I will try using the web functionality, I hadn't realized that was an option.

That will at least help you with some functionality while I look into exactly what is causing this installation to not connect. I know exactly what you are going through as I am currently working out the exact same issue elsewhere in the forums. I do not want to provide suggestions that do not help so mind the time I am taking to see what works and what doesn't.
Where I am at in my other post, the other user has other scanner programs keeping his installation from completing. Do you have anything like MicroTrend or scanning software, or perhaps other printers/scanners installed on this computer that is not installed on the other PCs?
