I am trying to print from a document that is fed to the printer through the document feeder. It sounds like the document feeder is trying to pick it up. We have tried several times. Instead of picking up the document it spits out blank paper and it is eating up our print allotment.

We have tried the reset technique given as an answer to someone else but it is not taking care of the problem.

Next.....After several attempts (our instantink web page showed we had black ink still when this all started) our printer just now is telling us we are out of black ink.

You can copy, scan, or fax a document by placing it in the document feeder.

A Reminder in the User Guide

CAUTION:  Do not load photos in the document feeder; this might cause damage to your photos. Use only paper that is supported by the document feeder.
NOTE:  Some features, such as the Fit to Page
copy feature, do not work when you load your originals in the document feeder. For those features to work, load your originals on the scanner glass.

Please double check that the paper you are loading into the ADF is within the paper size and paper weight specifications for the printer.  If the paper is the wrong size -- or if the paper is too thin or too heavy, the copy will fail.

The User Guide explains how to load the document > Chapter 2, Page 26
