ENVY 4500
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

HI - I am continually having problems with this printer. It is now stuck on 'now printing' . This is regardless of the device I am printing from - laptop, Iphone, ipad - all the sae. I have used diagnostics and the print wizard, uninstalled printer, re-installed, updated driver, restarted printer, router, laptop.

Nothin works and it is extremely frustrating.

Can anyone offer any help - I have tried fixes on this forum but to no avail.

Hey @DM16,

Welcome to the HP forums! I hope you enjoy your stay here.

I see that your Envy 4500 e-All-In-One Printer has a Now printing message that is not going away. I can help you with that.

To start, make sure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet and not a surge protector. Once that is done:

  1. Turn off the printer and every computer or mobile device on your network that is capable of sending documents to the printer.
  2. Wait one minute.
  3. Turn the printer back on and wait another minute.
  4. If the printer goes to its main screen then try to make a copy. If this does not print then we know you have a hardware issue. Please let me know and I'll provide more direction. If not then please continue with the rest of the directions listed here.
  5. Turn on a single computer or mobile device. Wait until after it finishes initializing and then wait another five minutes.
  6. If the printer displays the "Now Printing" message then you have found a device that has a document stuck in a print queue. Note what the device is (because I may need to know what it is), turn that device off, wait a few minutes, and continue turning on the other devices.

Please let me know what devices or computers and their operating systems force the printer into being stuck on the error message or let me know where you have issues and I will be able to assist you further.

I have the same problem with a HP 3515. Stuck on "now printing."

Tried to make just a copy per your suggestions, and now it's stuck on "copying... 1/1". In your last post you said this indicates a hardware problem.

Very frustrated. Please advise.

As I Understand your HP ENVY4500 is stuck on 'now printing' and doesn't seem to print,

Going by your post, you are right, if the copier doesn't work either it is considered a hardware failure,
however, before we get to the conclusion, I had a few more questions:

Have you attempted a hard reset or a semi-full reset as these steps may resolve the issue?

Also, did you try cleaning up the ADF rollers to ensure there aren't any issues within the scanner?

while you reply, here's what I recommend:

Step 1: Clean the scanner

Fingerprints, smudges, dust, or debris on the scanner glass, under the scanner lid, or in the document feed slot can cause lines and color bands. Clean these parts with a soft, lint-free cloth sprayed with glass cleaner.

Step 2: Clean the ADF rollers

Dust or paper residue on the rollers or separator pad inside the automatic document feeder (ADF) can result in copy quality issues. Open the ADF, and then clean the ADF rollers and separator pad.

Let me know if the above doesn't work and I'll send out a private message with the instructions to perform a semi-full reset as the information is sensitive and cannot be provided publically.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.
