I have to admit that the Envy 100 looks good and that is one of the reasons I bought it, but I'm sending it back today because:

1. There appears to be no solution for the door problem.

Sometimes the door closes when should, sometimes it stays open when it shouldn't.

The refurbished ones don't seem to have the problem solved as suggested by HP.

If the door doesn't work on a NEW printer, I can only imagine what problems the door will present as time goes by.

2. A firmware fix for The Endless Initiation/Update Loop problem has been written by HP for PCs only. Since I have a Mac, there is no firmware fix available. I realize I could download the firmware fix and run it from a PC (which I don't have) but that seems kinda cheese ball to me.

I'll keep track of the Loop, Door and lack of Mac Firmware problems and maybe buy another Envy in the future if and when they get the bugs worked out.

Here's my take on this door closing issue.  I have a US D410 printer, model CN519A:

1) It is a firmware issue, not a HW issue that can only be fixed with a printer replacement... unless that replacement happens to have a version of firmware that fixes the door problem.  Why?  My printer had the door problem until version SLM1CN1039HR of firmware was installed.  Now the printer does not have the door problem...  same HW, different FW, problem solved... looks like a FW fix to me.

2) HP support - the left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand is doing with this printer and this issue.  When I first noticed the problem I called HP support and was passed to a special team set up for this printer.  I was assured the problem was hardware and not firmware, and that the only fix was a replacement (refurb) printer.  I declined at that time, because I didn't really buy that explaination and I wasn't too happy about replacing my new printer with a refurb.  Sure enough, after SLM1CN1039HR managed to install itself (an overly long - hours, and edge of the seat "do not power off" process) I found that the door now closes as expected.  I've opted to disable auto update now I'm on a version that seems to work.  I'd like to think one day I'll be able to re-enable auto-update and not have the next update brick the printer as a result of its other issue - "do not power off" update hangs.

I don't know what HP support is doing here.  It's as though the only tool support has is to exchange hardware, and that a lack of clear communication within HP product and support groups is making a small issue worse from a customer satisfaction standpoint.  I know my faith in HP's printer quality/QA has been tested...

Why wouldn't HP stop pushing out buggy over the network auto-update packages until they have a solid update path devised?  Having experienced the update hang myself, I feel pretty lucky my printer finally recovered.  I'm not keen to take a stab at the process again until I hear that it's bullet proof (e.g. I won't need to accept a refurb as a result of the next update that goes bad), and the door issue will remain fixed.

here is a follow up to my earlier post. it was a firmware issue and HP's patch did work for me.

i got a pc and connected the printer via USB cable and installed that printer on the pc. then i installed the firmware patch after the printer was added, USB still connected. the firmware was installed. i then shutdown the PC, disconnected the printer and restared the printer and then it ran through it's update and returned to the home screen.

SO HAPPY THAT IT WORKED!!!!:robotwink:

Dear All,

I have the same problem, but I was able to get it back.

Please do the following step.

1. Press the shut down bottom and hold it.

2. While holding the shut down bottom, unplug the electricity cord.

3. While holding the shut down bottom, reconnect the cord.

That will be all, for a moment you will see your screen comming back.

Hope you all can do.

Thank,

Ngoeun

I have the same problem... Update went to 5 of  5, then 00.00.01 sec remaining "Do Not Power..." Stayed like that for two days. Finally unplugged. No matter what I do, plug, unplug, depress the other functions on the printer etc.  "initializing" is all I get for the past two days. Called the 1-800 line (supposed to be 24X7) answered all of the voice propmt questions, was put on hold, then it said no one available... try your call again later.  !!!!!!

I purchased this on 1-20-2011, after have purchased an HP All-In-One desk top. I assume it to be still in warranty. I went to the HP Web-site to verify warranty coverage and no-where on the printer are the serial number and product number as depicted on the site (supposed to be on the UPC). So of course I can't verify...

HP... HELP!

Today I've had the same problem. Stuck in the screen telling do not power off while updating. After 16 hours waiting I've called the helpdesk of HP. They told me there was nothing they could do and advised me to bring it back to the store for a new one. Luckily there is something called GOOGLE!!!!!! I came on this page and saw the reset procedure even when the symbols are not lighten. The BL - TL - BR - TL , helped me and got the printer out of the loop!!!! It works fine for now.

Over 90 minutes on the phone with HP Service yesterday, they sending a replacement (re-ferb) printer...

This is what worked for me so perhaps a variation of this problem is what your printer's problem is....

initializing...forever

unplug from the wall

unplug from the back of the printer

wait 5 minutes

plug back into wall

plub back into back of printer--i believe the power to the printer wasn't adequate which created this problem as the initalizing was a weak light.

when i did this i got the menus and was able to print.  hope this helps you but i think you probably are no longer on the oil rig!

How can I correct it?
