I'm receiving both error 326 and 339 when trying to fax 6 pages to a specific number. I can fax to other numbers, and taking the 6 page fax to another machine it will go through to the same number. Not sure what the problem is??? It can't be the receiving number because it works from a different fax machine. It can't be my number / printer because I can fax to other numbers just fine?

Hello @CoraMae , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!

I can see you're having fax issues.  I would like to help!

Before we start, I have a few questions.

  • Are you connected via a standard analog phone line, or a digital VoIP line?
  • Are you running the fax line into a modem or router, or a wall jack?
  • What are your rings set to?

The fax errors you are receiving, which can be found in this document on Interpreting Error Codes in Fax Communication Error or Fax History Reports, that these issues are occuring on the receiving fax machine:

329 - The remote machine reported that one or more pages were received (non-ECM mode) with excessive errors. This error does not result in the session being terminated immediately. Subsequent page transmission can still occur and later pages can be received without error.Retry the fax transmission at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.

339 - The remote fax machine might be defective. Try to verify this by sending the same fax to other fax machines. If these transmissions are successful, then notify the user of the remote machine to make them aware of the issue.

I would recommend going to your fax menu on the front panel of the printer, into advanced fax setup, and turning on error correction mode, and setting the fax speed to slow.

Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

This did not resolve the issue. My phone lines are digital, and the error correction is already on. By choosing the "slow" option for the fax speed, it just went into error 339 mode after sending the first page instead of waiting. This fax works when sending to the same number from a different machine.

Hi CoraMae , thanks for getting back to me.

You can try adjusting the ECM to off.

The issue is occuring with the remote fax, which essentially means there is something wrong with the fax machine you are faxing to, or the phone lines it is connected to, and will not allow you to communicate with it correctly.

If the error is with the remote fax, why does it work when using a different machine? Would this be directly related to this printer stopping a print job after only a couple pages with an "error"? I cannot print more than 2 pages at a time either.
