I bought the Deskjet 1514 on 19/07/15 and installed it on my relatively new laptop. It worked ok, then I did the Windows 10 upgrade on 01/08/15. I installed the updated drivers from HP for this device. What ever I do, (have uninstalled software, reinstalled at least 4 times, used the scan doctor, swapped USB cables and ports, cleaned the disk...) I just get the message The HP Deskjet 1510 series was not found, yet when aligning the ink cartridges the scanner will work but I cannot do the test scan in the scan doctor or scan anything using the HP software (which you have to do as there is no proper control panel on the actual device). As bought the device primarily as a scanner, I am not happy and just want the thing to work but haven't a clue how to proceed except to take the thing back to Tesco and get a refund and buy a Canon instead... Please can anyone help as the HP support is useless? The printer part is working fine, which makes it ridiculous.

Hey @Voodude13,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that your HP Deskjet 1514 All-in-One Printer is not being detected via the USB Cable connection on your Windows 10 computer. I would like to assist you today with resolving this installation and product detection issue. Thank you for including all of the troubleshooting steps that you have attempted prior to reaching out for support. At this time I am going to have you complete some additional troubleshooting steps. We will be repeating the uninstall process for troubleshooting today as it is crucial that we have a nice clean slate to work with. Please complete all of the steps below.
Please disconnect the USB Cable from your printer and computer before proceeding.
Step 1: Remove Driver:
1. Click on your Start button
2. Type Programs and Features in the 'Ask me Anything' box to the right of the Start button. If you just start typing when the Start screen is open it should automatically start typing in the 'Ask me Anything' section.
3. When Programs and Features opens scroll down the list of populated programs and look for your HP Deskjet. If you see your HP Deskjet listed please click on it and choose Uninstall. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the uninstall.
4. Next, click on the Start button and type Devices in the 'Ask me Anything' box
5. Click Devices and Printers
6. Under the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Deskjet. If the HP Deskjet is listed, please right click on it and select 'Remvoe Device' or 'Delete'
7. Next, under the Printers section in the Devices and Printers window, click on any printer that shows once just to highlight it. Click on Print Server Properties at the top of the window.
8. Under Print Server Properties, click on the Drivers tab.
9. If you see your HP Deskjet listed under Drivers, click on it and choose Remove at the bottom.
10. Click Remove Driver Only
11. Select OK
12. Select Apply and OK under the Print Server Properties window
13. Close Devices and Printers. Please proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Clear Temp Files:
1. Click on your Start button
2. Type Run. Click Run to launch the Run dialogue box.
3. In the Run box type %temp% and click OK
4. When the Temp folder opens, select Ctrl + A at the same time on your keyboard. Everything in this folder will now highlight.
5. Select the 'delete' button on your keyboard. The Temp folder contains temporary internet files. No actual files or folders on your computer will be affected by deleting the Temp files. Should a Temp file still be used than you will automatically get the pop up to 'skip' that item.
6. Close the Temp folder once it is emptied
7. Right click the Recycling Bin on your desktop and select Empty Recycling Bin. Please proceed to the last step.
Step 3: Install Device:
- Please click here to download and run the HP Printer Install Wizard
- Once the download has completed please follow the steps under the PIW to install your device
- Plug in the USB Cable only when prompted by the installer
Once the installation has completed successfully please test printing and scanning to confirm that your product is functioning as per normal.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Good luck! 🙂

Hi, tried everything you suggested and still the scanner doesn't work so downloaded the print & scan doctor again. When the scan doctor is going, you can hear the scanner working but still won't do the test scan and I still get the same message up. Think maybe I just got a dud scanner. Thanks for trying but after spending at least 6 hours trying everything to get the thing to work I am so fed up I am now going to take it back to Tesco to see if they will give me a refund. It is that or chuck it out of my 2nd storey window...

Hey @Voodude13,
Thanks for getting back to me regarding this issue.
If you have no luck getting the refund, I would strongly recommend that you contact our Technical Support queue by phone to explore replacement printer options as your product is covered under a one year manufacturers warranty. If defective, your product would qualify for a whole unit replacement.
HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link:
HP Contact Support
(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.
(2) Choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.
(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.
(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
Please advise the Phone Support Agent of the troubleshooting steps we have attempted and the results of those steps. Also, please note, if you are able to Copy successfully on your printer, then the scanner mechanism is functioning as per normal. In which case, when you speak with our Technical Support queue by phone additional troubleshooting may be required. However, you will have the option of doing a remote session. This means that with your permission the Technical Support Agent can gain access to your computer and troubleshoot this issue for you.
It has been a pleasure working with you. I wish you luck going forward with this! 🙂

Good day!
I am somewhat having the same issues with my Deskjet Ink Advantage 2515: Printer works, but scan app in Windows 10 cannot detect my printer.
So here's what I did so far:
1) Installed Basic Driver -- installed, printing is ok, scanner not detected. It shows:
2) Installed the Basic Driver + Installation Guide combo -- installed, printing is ok, scanner not detected.
3) Tried HP Installation Wizard (hppiw) -- installed, detected my printer as DJ 2510 instead of 2515. I was asked to choose between "PRINT test page or Test SCAN. if neither works, download HP Print & Scan Doctor."
4) HP Print & Scan Doctor (HPPSdr) -- installed,
--> "HP scan" clicked, (then I heard the usual scanning sound)
--> Then I was asked if I would like to "Test scan again" as the last step. But pop-up
opens and says "HP Deskjet 2510 series was not found."
Can I try this instruction you posted for my Deskjet Ink Advantage 2515 or is there another way for my printer? Good for the thread starter she bought it 3 weeks ago, but my printer is way, way past return and warranty dates.
Hope to hear from you soon!

Hey @yukime,
Welcome to the thread!
I see that you're experiencing issues scanning from your HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2515 All-in-One Printer to your Windows 10 computer. I'd like to assist you today with resolving this issue. Thanks for including all of the troubleshooting steps you have completed prior to reaching out for support. Just to note, the installation package for your HP Deskjet will show as the Deskjet 2510 as that is the series of printer you have. =D
I would recommend trying the steps in my prior post to completely remove the driver, clear the Temp files, and install your HP Deskjet. However, can you please use this driver to install your printer. It is the HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Driver package for your product that will include the printing and scanning drivers, as well as the HP Printer Assistant software for scanning and maintaining your printer.
Please let me know if the troubleshooting steps resolve this scan issue. Good luck! 🙂

Hi all
Just to let you know, I have pinched my dad's 2544 All-in-one and apart from taking a while to connect to my network instead of his when I got it home, the driver for Windows 8 worked fine with Windows 10 and I have managed to scan with this so I think my 1514 must have been a dud. Good luck to Yukime with sorting out their issue.
Cheers

Success! Thank you so much, X-23!
(I went on a vacation and was able to set it up only this day.)
My printer's scanner now works both using the HP scanning software and the Windows 10 scan app from the start menu. I will now save the installer you gave me. Just in case.
Kudos!!
