I have a HP Laser Jet 1536dnf MFP running Windows 7 on my HP laptop. My printer works great and my scanning used to work great up until the last month. Then the scanning gives me a communication error. I have uninstalled & installed several times and still the same error. When I run the HP scan doctor, it gives the error with the Windows (WIA). Yet I connected a different laptop to the network, installed all the drivers and the scanning worked just fine. So the printer works. My laptop also continues to print no problem.

As well, I have an HP Officejet Pro 8500A and the printing and scanning with the same laptop that I am having an issue with works just fine with the OfficeJet.

I tried the solution above of checking the 3 services identified (RPC, Shell HW Detection & WIA) and they are all started & set to automatic.

No clue what to do at this point.

Any help is much appreciated

Tony

Hi T-K

Here is a url explaining Wia. (Windows Image Acquistion)
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms630368(v=vs.85).aspx

I would recommend to run the Microsoft Fix It Tool to see if it will resolve your issue.

This did not fix the problem.  All three of the required services were running.
