I have a Officejet J4580 All-in-One printer and it states there is a paper jam. I have cleaned the rollers, moved the ink cartridges and cleared it of all paper. I have thoroughly checked the printer for small pieces of paper and nothing is there. Please help!!!!

When I see this situation, I look carefully for a jammed senor lever.  They either hang down from the top, or protrude up from the bottom of the paper path.  They should freely move.  If the do not, they are activating the sensor they are attached to.

They can get caught on the edge of a cover, or have a piece of paper from a previous  jam caught in them.

  1. Press the Power button ( ) to turn on the product.
  2. With the product turned on , disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait at least 15 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
  7. If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button ( ) to turn it on.
Step two: Print a self-test report

First 2Cents.. THANK YOU for responding. I checked the senor lever and the lever in the front of the printer is pretty tight and difficult to turn. There isn't any paper jammed that I can see. The paper will feed right through the rollers and mid way the error will appear there is a jam. I've reset it and still the same. :Crying:

Wow.  This is when I wish I was there in front of it.  It is usually something simple.  It takes a little patience and a lot of scrutiny to locate these sometimes. Here is a process I usually use when I go to a customers who is having false jams.

Locating the problem:

1. I feed the paper in manually and look for paper any indentations or folding on the leading edge.  If so, that would indicate that the paper is hitting something in the path.

2. If not, I let the printer feed the paper in and when it stops I look a sensor in the vicinity of the leading edge of the paper.  Most likely this is the one that is causing the jam error.

3. One higher end units the printer, or the driver has diagnostic options to test the printer, and sometimes they will pin point the sensor sensor that is failing.

What I have seen in most occasions is that after a authentic jam:

a.  During the process of removing the paper a sensor is blocked by a piece of paper that may not necessarily be visible. It could be located underneath a cover where one end of the (lever) flag intercedes with the sensor.

b.  Or, the lever (flag) cannot move because it is jammed on a cover.

c.  Or a roller, or lever (flag) has come off of the bracket it pivots on.

d.  Or a gear used to drive the feed rollers has stripped.

I have used canned air to clear the error (POWER  OFF THE PRINTER IF YOU DO).

Hello I also have a paper jam message. I've only had my machine since Christmas and haven't used the printer yet, so it can't be a jam.

I've tried following the videos, but when I try to move the ink cartridges across, they won't budge.

I've got a  HP Photosmart Wireless e-All-in-One Printer - B110a

Can someone help please?

If you have not used the printer since you have gotten it, inspect it closely and make sure there is no packing material or tape in the area the ink cartridge carriage.  For shipping purposes they lock these carriages into place.   When the carriage moves to the far side a resevoir will normally rise into position to assist with catching leakage, among other things.  Trying to force the carriage to move under this condition can damage something.

Thanks! Actually, I just remembered, I did use the printer a few times early on, and it was fine. For some reason now it refuses to work.

I tried following the videos on the machine - pulling the back out didn't work, and i couldn't move the ink cartridges.

I have a Officejet 8500 that is giving me a "false" paper jam. Right before it did this it was feeding through multiple sheets of paper. I have cleaned the rollers, tried canned air, tried a reset and am still coming up with the paper jam message. The only thing I have noted that is a problem is the paper feeder is stuck in the up position. Can you tell me how to fix this keeping in mind I am not tech savvy? Just really can't afford to bring this thing in to have it serviced and can't afford a new one! Thanks for your help, thank you even more if you can resolve this problem!!

I am having the exact same problem.  Did you find a solution yet?  Kelle

I'm having so many problems with this machine. Printer is 'jammed', I have to reinstall the machine once every couple of weeks because it says my computer doesn't recognise it, and sometimes I scan 10 pages and only 1 of them actually appears. I've only had the machine since Christmas and I can't believe how many problems I'm having with it.
