HP OfficeJet Pro 8740
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

I can send a fax but I am NOT able to receive faxes.   The phone/answering machine picks up on 4 rings & the fax is set for  6 rings,

and although I set my printer up for a distinct ring for the fax it's always the same as the phone/answering machine.

Tried the HP fax test 1-877-473-2963 and when they call the message I receive on my report is - NO FAX

however when I send a fax to the HP fax test number my report says - OK

also my fax test report for the 8740 series is PASS on all categorys!

Thanking you in advance for any help you can provide.

Distinct ring is a service provided by the phone company. It's primarily used when you have Two different phone numbers, one for voice and another for fax, but shares the same land line. They use different ringing pattern to indicate a call is voice or fax (or which line).  It doesn't apply to most people nowadays. You should check with your phone company if this is supported.

Thank you - didn't realize that with the different ring tones.

However my biggest problem is that when the number rings through on the test fax I DO NOT receive the fax.

BTW,  that should read WINDOWS 10 (64 BIT)
