HP OfficeJet 5610xi all in one
macOS 10.12 Sierra

This older printer has been printing slower and slower until it now takes about five minutes to print a single page.  I went to the HP website for a solution and followed the instructions to download and install the latest print driver.  The printer now prints a bit faster but is still slower than previous.  The instructions say if the latest driver does not solve the problem then the latest firmware should be installed.  Instructions say go to HP Customer Support; then click software and driver download: select printer model; click firmware and download; Install using Assist.  When I do that there is no "Firmware" menu pick.  Not sure what to do now.

Appears you are correct.  I see no firmware update for this printer.

The 5610xi is so old it is no longer supported by HP.  I may just have to buy a new all in one device but have used the 5610xi as a copier and as a backup to my Samsung printer.  Print quality is still quite good but it prints at glacier speed.

Well you haven't told us what you mean by 'slow printing'.    Could just be a defective ink cartridge.  Suspect the black is bad.

I printed a two page letter last week and it took about 15 minutes.  That's fairly slow to my thinking.  Letter was only normal text, no pics or graphics.  New black cartridge was installed about three months ago but was in my storage cabinet for a year or more.  I will pull it and see if it look dirty or gummy.

Ok, like does it print one line and pause?  Printer 2 lines and pause??????

Or does it take 1 minute to move across the entire page?

HP Recommended
It prints one line at a time with long pauses in between.

Yep, sounds like a defective black print cartridge.   Change it with a new HP cartridge to check.

Ok I will try it.

I ended up wiping ink residue off both cartridges and reinstalling them. Printer now works fine. Problem had nothing to do with the drivers or firmware.
