Downloading the latest update for OSX

LJCP1020_FW_Upgrade-20160412_signed.dmg

Only updates the firmware to version 20130826

The support agent in this thread says the latest version then was 20150114

Was this update removed?

Hi @darkskiez,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums with your firmware inquiry.

I understand that you have an HP LaserJet Pro CP1025nw Color Printer and you tried updating your printer firmware with the HP LaserJet Pro CP1025nw Color Printer Firmware Update Utility which was supposed to update the firmware to Version 20160412, but it only updated to Version 20130826. I would like to help.

HP does not necessarily remove updates, but they do update them to include the fixes from the previous versions.

Version 20160412 should be what the latest HP LaserJet Pro CP1025nw Color Printer Firmware Update Utility should update to.

I am not sure how you are connecting the printer to the computer, but firmware upgrades always seem to run better if the printer is connected to the computer with a USB cable.

If you have a USB cable, I would download and run the HP LaserJet Pro CP1025nw Color Printer Firmware Update Utility with a USB cable connected.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

The printer was previously on 20110826, so it did successfully find my printer on the network and upgrade it to 20130826, but not the version specified in the update filename (20160412).

If I run the utility again, it finds the printer but warns that the version the update utility wants to install is the same as is currently installed on the printer (Warning... 20130826 is the same as 20130826) I can take a screenshot later.

If the updater uses a different firmware for USB updates (which would be very weird and I would consider flawed) then that might help. I'll try when I get home anyway.

I've found other users have the same problem: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/Color-Laserjet-1025nw-firmware-update-will-not-update...

I really still suspect this is a fault with your release / updater package for osx.

I unpacked the updater for windows exe and OSX updater dmgs to examine the firmwares inside them

The windows updater contains the following images. (md5sum)

9c121ac0a0ecae22e62197fb79c5b73a CP1020_2.pkg
9cbd5e9b2d6ca4ac337d273efb4ee153 CP1020_2NW.pkg

a7e8e47e822886d08d7edf44fc8b6500 CP1025nw.bin

The osx updater has two parts the same and two different (weird)

673086e0e129180318d79482c4740067 sid2.pkg
b33edaf34e11fb7d24390332a4501f57 sid2nw.pkg
f0127e3f2483d9bcdc4344544636c7d0 sidbase.bin
a7e8e47e822886d08d7edf44fc8b6500 sidnw.bin

Looking at the firmare images I can see references to the version I am seeing.

$ strings sidnw.bin |tail -2
HP LaserJet CP1025nw
20130826

$ strings sid2nw.pkg |tail -2
HP LaserJet CP 1025nw
20160412

I'm not sure why some printers have a space in their model numbers, maybe there was two issues of the CP1025 and they are differentiated with a space in the name? Weird weird weird.

I'm having exactly the same issue.

By searching on HP's website, it seems CP1025nw has two models - CE914A and CE918A.

I would assume the CE914A is the old hardware model, which is only supported by firmware version upto 20130826.

And the latest firmware 20160412 is only for CE918A.

This needs to be confirmed by HP support.

Just add another finding.

CE914A is released in 2010, while CE918A is released in 2015.

So I would assume the firmware version 2015xxxx and 2016xxxx are for CE918A only.

BTW, I tried to contact HP support. They told me my printer is out of warranty period, and I need to pay a fee to ask questions. Disappointed.
