Just bought a new HP LJ Pro 400 colour printer (M451dn). I installed the latest driver from the support website (v5.3) (UPD Version: 5.3.0.12262) (61.120.4.12262) released 26th October. It is installed under Windows 8 Pro (64 bit version).

I am trying to print duplex colour pictures to A4 paper in landscape mode, using the Print Photo Wizard in Windows 8. In the driver I have selected the option to print in "Flip-Over" mode with the binding margin on the short edge. However the pictures keep printing in "Flip-Up" mode instead.  However I set up the driver it always prints the pictures so the binding margin is the long edge.

Is this a bug in the driver? It always used to work fine on my older duplex colour printer (HP 3700dn).

No one else having this problem? I have tried different drivers on different laptops/pcs and I cannot get the printer to print landscape duplex in Flip-Over mode (so that I can bind the sheets on the short edge). I always end up with the reverse side printed upside down with respect to the front side of each landscape sheet.

I am using duplex printing on a 2610XI and want left hand binding but the printer will only pring with flip up!

If you cannot get the printer to print correctly, where are you adjusting the flip-up and flip-over settings?  In the Devices and Printers folder, right-click on the printer icon and select Printing Preferences.  I will post a picture of where I see "Yes, Flip UP."

And now here is an image of which steps to take to correct this:

Let me know if this helps you.  If not I will need to know what program you are printing from and the operating system of the computer you are using and I will be happy to help.

I don't get the screens as presented! I have automatically print on both sides but it always prints the reverse side upside down!

Thank you for clarifying that for me.  What is the operating system of the computer you are using and what program are you trying to print from?  This is common with Adobe Reader/.PDF documents.

Answer those two questions if the above link does not help.

I am using Microsoft Vista Premium and printing from Word version 2007

Thank you for your quick reply.  Here is a screen shot I took from Word 2010.  It is a little different but make sure you have selected to "Print two-sided, flip on long edge" selected.  Also, if you have not seen the first images I offered before, go to Start Button>>Devices and Printers (on the right)>>Right-click on your printer>>select Printing Preferences>>[make required changes]>>Click Apply.

I know your screens are going to look different than mine but they all use the same words and actions to apply the same functions.

This is an image from Word 2010 after I pressed Print...

I really hope this helps!

Tried everything with no luck. I did have the printer working at one time using the 6500 driver but now I can't get it to load.
HP Recommended

If the 6500 worked in the past, try the Deskjet 990c drivers or even the Deskjet 6980 for these kinds of options.

--Assigning Alternate Print Drivers--   This link will explain exactly what you can do to "install" the best generic drivers for what you are trying to accomplish.

I hope this works. Keep me posted!
